Move over, Love Island – we’ve got a new reality TV obsession that’s taken over our lives. We’re of course talking about Love is Blind UK.
As well as binge-watching the episodes as soon as they’re released by Netflix, we’ve been trawling through the cast’s social media to find out everything there possibly is to know about the show’s brides and grooms and, of course, some behind-the-scenes secrets.
This led us to cast member Shirley Bekker’s TikTok, where she spilled some scalding hot tea.
Viewers will know that Love is Blind UK follows the blossoming relationships of six couples who met in the pods before getting engaged, but it turns out that there were even more couples that got engaged who were never shown on TV.
Say what, now?
According to Shirley, there were a grand total of 11 proposals although just over half made the final edit.
“Netflix cast a total of 15 women and 15 men, although you saw a total of six engagements, 11 of our cast got engaged,” Shirley revealed in a now-deleted video.
“There were only four of us who didn’t get engaged. Only certain stories can get followed all the way to the altar because they can’t fit in that many stories into that few episodes.”
Love is Blind creator Chris Cohen has previously opened up about not being able to showcase all the cast members. He said, “Each season, there are are lots of stories that we don’t tell, regardless of whether couples get engaged or not. Some of them even, we will follow for a little bit and not show their story on the show… It’s a little bit of a judgement call.”
While 11 couples were formed on the show, Shirley admitted she was one of the unlucky ones who didn’t find love despite sparking a connection with one of the guys.
She explained that she struck up a “ride or die” relationship with fellow cast member Richie, but he had another “more special connection” with another cast member called Ria. Richie and Ria did go on to get engaged, although this moment was left on the cutting room floor.
