Tributes have poured in for Love Island star Mike Thalassitis after his tragic death last weekend. The death of the former footballer, who was just 26-years-old, has sparked a petition by his co-star Jonny Mitchell, who is calling for more support and aftercare for contestants on the show.
Since it was set up two days ago, the petition has almost reached its goal of 75,000, and show bosses have now addressed the issues with a statement about the post-show support and vowed to do more.
And as a further tribute to Mike's memory, MTV have taken the bold step of cancelling their latest season of Ex on the Beach, which featured him.
Releasing a statement to MailOnline, MTV bosses said, "We were very sad to hear the tragic news about Mike Thalassitis and our thoughts are with his family and friends.
"Last year, Mike took part in filming for the next series of Ex on the Beach, which was due to air on MTV later in the year. In light of the news of Mike’s death, we have decided not to broadcast the planned tenth season of the show."
It is being reported that Mike had just finished filming the show, which his ex-girlfriend Megan McKenna appeared on in 2015, before he passed away in woodlands near his home in Essex.
A source has told The Sun that MTV have decided to cancel the show at great cost to themselves, "'Bosses have decided that in the grand scheme of things that there are more important concerns than pulling a series.
"They agreed it would be insensitive to Mike’s friends and family to air it. It’s not a decision they have taken lightly as series like this do not come cheap."
Our thoughts are with Mike's family friends at this difficult time.
