Following Piers Morgan’s shock departure from Good Morning Britain, speculation has been rife about who will replace him as the co-host of the ITV breakfast show alongside Susanna Reid.

While GMB regulars like Ben Shephard, Richard Madeley and Adil Ray have all been tipped for the role, fans have taken to social media to share some slightly more unconventional candidates that they think should get the job and we’re absolutely living for them.

It's been almost six months since Piers walked away from the show and while the likes of Bill Turnbull, Martin Lewis and Alastair Campbell have all temporarily filled in for him, a permanent replacement is yet to be announced.

Here's who fans would like to take the reins on the breakfast show...

Alex Beresford

It would be quite the turn of events if Alex Beresford replaced Piers, given that their on-screen row caused him to storm off set before announcing his departure but that's exactly what some viewers have called for after Alex called out Piers' comments about Meghan Markle.

Jeremy Clarkson

Another of Piers' foes who has been tipped to replace him is Jeremy Clarkson. Jez, who was reportedly once involved in a punch-up with Piers, fuelled the fire last night when he tweeted, "People of America. You sent Piers Morgan back to the UK. Now look what we've sent back to you. Ha. We win."

Ranvir Singh

Ranvir hosted Good Morning Britain alongside Susanna Reid the morning after Piers' departure was announced, although ITV claimed she was always scheduled to appear on the show. She'd make a great permanent replacement though, and we'd love to see two women host the show.

ITV released a statement back in March confirming Piers had decided to leave the show after causing controversy with his comments about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Oprah interview.

They said, "Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.

"ITV has accepted the decision and has nothing further to add."

Over 40,000 people have complained to broadcasting watchdog Ofcom after Piers questioned claims made by Meghan in her interview with Oprah; in which she explained past thoughts of suicide.

'There's no way back for Harry and Meghan now'

Wait, Harry and Meghan had a secret wedding before their big day?

But Piers stood by his criticism of the Duchess as he broke his silence on his Good Morning Britain exit on Twitter.

He wrote, “On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview. I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t. If you did, OK.

“Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on. Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions.”

His tweet was accompanied by a picture of Winston Churchill alongside a quote about free speech.

Speaking outside his London home this morning, he described his departure from GMB as “a temporary hibernation” and said he was “always in talks with people” about other work.
