Girls Aloud were created on ITV's Popstars: The Rivals back in 2002 and had some absolute bops in the noughties with Sound of the Underground and The Promise.

The girl group then split in 2013 with each of the members going on to have successful careers in their own rights.

But whilst we're pretty clued up on where Cheryl, Nicole, Nadine, Kimberley and Sarah are these days... whatever happened to their rivals One True Voice and the girls who didn't quite make the cut?

Cheryl, Girls Aloud

While still a member of Girls Aloud, Cheryl started a solo career and released number one tracks like Fight For This Love and Promise This. She was actually the first British female solo artist to have five number one singles. In 2008, Cheryl became a judge on The X Factor until 2011 before returning in 2014 and 2015. More recently, Cheryl has appeared as a judge on The Greatest Dancer. Her personal life has also been pretty busy with two husbands (Ashley Cole and Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini - remember him?) and a short-lived relationship with One Direction's Liam Payne, with whom she had a son Bear. Phew!

Sarah Harding, Girls Aloud

During Girls Aloud's initial hiatus, Sarah took up acting appearing in St Trinian's 2, Run for Your Wife and Coronation Street. Since then she's turned her hand to reality TV appearing in Celebrity Masterchef, The Jump and Celebrity Big Brother in 2017 (which she went on to win). In August 2020, Sarah was sadly diagnosed with breast cancer that had advanced to other parts of her body. In March 2021, she announced that her diagnosis was terminal and that she'd be unlikely to "see another Christmas". In September 2021, Sarah sadly died aged 39 after losing her battle with cancer. Alongside a candid photo of Sarah, Sarah's mum said, "It's with deep heartbreak that today I'm sharing the news that my beautiful daughter Sarah has sadly passed away. Many of you will know of Sarah's battle with cancer and that she fought so strongly from her diagnosis until her last day. She slipped away peacefully this morning. I'd like to thank everyone for their kind support over the past year."It meant the world to Sarah and it gave her great strength and comfort to know she was loved. I know she won't want to be remembered for her fight against this terrible disease – she was a bright shining star and I hope that's how she can be remembered instead - Marie x."

Kimberley Walsh, Girls Aloud

Unlike many of the other members of Girls Aloud, Kimberley didn't embark on a solo singing career once the group split and instead turned her hand to presenting and acting. Kimberley made her West End debut in 2011 playing Princess Fiona in Shrek the Musical and most recently appeared in series two of Channel 4's Ackley Bridge. In 2012, she appeared on Strictly Come Dancing and ended up in second place. She's also had a pretty busy personal life marrying her long-term partner Justin Scott in 2016, with whom she has three sons, the youngest of which was born in 2021.

Nicola Roberts, Girls Aloud

Not only is Nicola the winner of the first series of The Masked Singer UK, she's also the reason why under-18s are banned from using tanning beds which increase the likelihood of skin cancer for their users. Nicola also released a solo album titled Cinderella's Eyes which peaked at number 17 on the UK albums chart and the catchy single Beat of my Drum (listen now if you haven't ever heard it).

After the One True Voice disbanded, Matt signed a solo contract with Jive Records but eventually left and joined his own label Tristar Records in 2013. In 2016, he released the single Get Over You but we'll be honest, he doesn't seem to have done that much recently. An Instagram deep dive has revealed that Matt has two young sons Elvie and Huwie with his wife Laura.

Daniel Pearce, One True Voice

Daniel has probably had the most successful music career of One True Voice since Popstars: The Rivals having had a career as Dizzee Rascal's backing singer and founding the funk, rock and soul band Shuffler. Clea

Four of the girls who didn't make it into Girls Aloud (Chloe Staines, Lynsey Brown, Emma Beard and Aimee Kearsley) decided to join together to from the girl band Clea. Although they didn't have the success of their rivals, their first single Download It reached Number 21 on the UK charts. Aimee went on to join another group The Code who supported The Wanted on their UK tour and is now a music producer. Chloe now lives in Vancouver, Canada and occasionally releases music. Emma works in PR and has two adorable children. As for Lynsey... we have no idea...

Phixx

While the girls formed Clea, the boys who didn't make the cut (Andrew Kinlochan, Chris Park, Mikey Green, Peter Smith, and Nikk Mager) became Phixx. Between 2003 and 2005 they had four top 20 singles but then split. Now, in 2021, Andrew still works as a singer/songwriter, Chris turned his hand to presenting, Mikey is now part of the rock band Pentasonic and appeared on Channel 5's The Farm, Peter has moved to Barcelona and Nikk still performs every now and again and is the proud parent of two adorable dogs.

One True Voice's attempt at a Christmas Number One with Sacred Trust/After You're Gone naturally paled in comparison to Sound of the Underground and was a sign of times to come for the group.

They released their second single Shakespeare's (Way With) Words in 2003 but then split later that year without releasing an album together.
