Ever since it was announced that England will be going into a second lockdown on Thursday 5 November, there’s been lots of speculation about what that could mean for Strictly Come Dancing.

It had previously been rumoured that BBC bosses could cancel the show completely if we were to go into a nationwide lockdown again. That, thankfully, doesn’t seem to be the case but it looks like they will have to make some changes ahead of the next live show this Saturday (7 November).

Will Strictly Come Dancing continue during lockdown?

Good news - a BBC spokesperson confirmed that the Strictly live shows will continue to go ahead despite the national lockdown. Restrictions have been slightly relaxed since the first lockdown in March so that workplaces can remain open when working from home isn’t possible, for example, film and TV production.

Professional dancer Janette Manrara also confirmed that the show will continue as normal during an appearance on BBC One’s Morning Live.

She said, “BBC have been incredible in making sure we're following all the government guidelines. And the show is going to continue going forward on Saturday night and I think we need it, we need it more than ever right now.”

You can say that again, hun. We defo need a bit of Strictly sparkle to get us through lockdown 2.0.

A statement on the BBC website reads, “In light of the new lockdown measures which take effect in England from Thursday 5 November, we’re sad to announce that we won’t be able to have a live studio audience for Strictly Come Dancing during November. Ticket holders have been notified.

“No tickets will be sent out for December shows until we are sure it will be safe and compliant to welcome audiences back, so please keep checking back for updates. We will continue to follow government guidelines.

“We understand how disappointing this will be, but we very much hope we will see some of you later in the series – and in the meantime you can continue to watch all the action from the comfort and safety of your sofa.”

A number of changes have already been made to this year’s series in light of coronavirus restrictions, with the celeb contestants forming “Strictly bubbles” with their dance partners.

The series has also been cut from 12 to nine episodes, with Halloween week and the traditional Blackpool episode both being axed.

Celebrities are regularly tested for coronavirus and face being removed from the competition if they test positive. There are temperature checks each day as well as enforced social distancing and mask worn at all times.

The series was almost thrown into disarray when HRVY tested positive just weeks before the launch show, but luckily he made a recovery in time to stay in the competition.
