It’s not uncommon for The Traitors contestants to engage in a little bit of deception – after all, it is part and parcel of the game. Of course, the Traitors themselves have to keep their identity a secret, but the Faithfuls have been known to tell a little white lie or two.
Just take series three contestant Charlotte Berman for example. At the start of the series, she revealed she was pretending to be Welsh despite being born and bred in London because it’s the ‘most trustworthy’ accent.
Although we were a little bit baffled at first, it does kinda make sense, and according to Traitors legend Paul Gorton, Charlotte’s fake accent could be the key to her going all the way and winning the show.
Speaking exclusively to heatworld ahead of the final week of the series, Paul explained that Charlotte’s Welsh ‘character’ allows her to separate her feelings from the game.
‘I think psychologically with herself, because she’s being Welsh she’s not being herself there,’ Paul said.
‘She’s a character, so she can do whatever she wants to do because she doesn’t feel like she’s being herself and that’s what I felt like [on series two]. I can go do whatever I want, kill people, and this type of thing because I'm a character. That's what this character would do.
‘I think that separation has really helped her with understanding that it is purely a game.’
Charlotte was recently recruited as a Traitor by Minah Shannon after Linda Rands and Armani Gouveia were sussed out by the Faithfuls, but Paul says her decision might not have been a good idea.
He said, ‘At the moment, [Charlotte] is the strongest Traitor. Minah really put her foot in it because she had a load of pressure, a load of people calling her name out and then she went and recruited an amazing Faithful.
‘What she should have done is pick someone like Alexander, who, at the time, had loads of people looking at him, so she would remain the dominant and strongest Traitor. She's not done that, which now makes me think there'll be a Minah and Charlotte face off like two Amazonian warriors going at it.
‘I think there's only going to be one victor out of the two of them. I think that might be Charlotte.’
Paul was speaking to heatworld on behalf of HeartBingo. The Traitors continues on BBC One this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
