Ooft, the latest series of The Traitors is a mixed bag, isn't? While it's showcasing the same level of high camp as last year (hello, Linda) and Claudia's country fits are once again top f**king tier, there's another complex layer to series three.
It's just a feeling, isn't it? That some of the choices, allegiances, allegations and actions made by some players against other players just feel a little 'personal' at times (and this was famously pointed out by new player Fozia).
Sure, The Traitors is a brutal AF game, but there's something uncomfortable about this year's game, especially around the Round Table.
Let's take Kasim Ahmed's Traitors' journey, for example; certain players incorrectly, and relentlessly, believed Faithful Kasim (truly the nicest man to ever grace television) to be a Traitor from day dot, and that wrongful judgment led to Kasim seemingly feeling 'isolated' and even 'ostracised' (just two of the words we pinched from viewers on social media) from the rest of the group during challenges and even in downtime.
That's not the vibe we want from our Traitors or Faithfuls.
Naturally, when we caught up with Traitors series 2 legend, Jaz Singh – AKA 'Jazatha Christie' – who is avidly watching the current series like most people with eyes, we had to ask whether he was feeling this new vibe from the series, too. Are things getting a little too personal amongst our players this year?
Jaz explained, 'You are naturally going to take this personally, because it's a once in a lifetime chance of you being on TV, you know, and showcasing who you are and trying to become the best version of yourself whilst playing this life size murder mystery game. So when people are pointing the finger at you and making you feel uncomfortable, that's naturally going to hurt.'
True, but why does it sting just a little harder this series?
Jaz continued, 'It was difficult to hear that Kasim was feeling ostracised in the group. When you go onto a show like [this], the welfare team, the wellbeing team, they are there at your disposal. They have been really, really, really good in ensuring that we're mentally okay after putting us through this traumatic experience. The welfare team is great.'
Some good news; since being banished from the game (which let's remember, was filmed months and months ago), Kasim has assured fans that he is very close with the cast, in fact, they've grown closer since the series wrapped.
He recently took to his Instagram to address the whisperings, writing, 'Most of all, as a cast we were a family, together for weeks and made bonds that are unbreakable, and the support and love we have for each other is even greater. Joe and Jake may have lead the charge against me in the game, but have been an excellent support in the real world and are some of the loveliest people I've met (and I've met a few!). Remember that all of us are people, and that we all act in different ways under stress.'
Jaz Singh was speaking to heatworld on behalf of SlotsCalendar. The Traitors continues Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays on BBC1 and BBC iPlayer.
