The Meggan Grubb wedding series: “We need to start writing our vows”

On wedding planning

I feel like everything is starting to feel much more together now! In my last column,everything was feeling a lot more dramatic. I had just got some astronomical prices back from the florists after I showed them what sort of flower arrangement I was imagining. It was all a little bit crazy!

We've actually managed to sort out most of the set-up for the wedding now. I had my wedding ring custom made to match my pale-green engagement ring. Niall just picked up his wedding ring and we've confirmed everything for the actual day now, which is such a relief. We were worried about our reception venue and whether we could even still go ahead with it. Why is wedding planning never smooth-sailing?!

On food

Thankfully all the big plans are finally in place, so we can concentrate on all the fun stuff! We are thinking of doing a custom drinks menu because we'd love to have five or so of our favourite cocktails and think it'll be such a nice idea to name them. We don't know the exact names yet, but we're thinking of something related to the wedding. Something like 'The Kirkland drink'? I don't know!

We also are planning on having a very personalised menu. We want to stay authentic to Greece with our food, and so thought it would be a nice idea to pick between our favourite dishes like prawn saganaki and gyros and other traditional Greek dishes.

I went to my dad's wedding last year and he had this really good idea, where he did mini fish and chips and midnight. You know when you're drunk and you fancy a kebab or chips? Obviously, at a wedding you can't do that, so we've decided to do pizzas late at night which I think will be really fun. We're also going to hopefully have some little campfires on the beach and the guy who runs the bar we're having it at has a guitar, so fingers crossed it'll be a cute little set-up.

On writing vows

Me and Niall actually said to each other this morning, we need to start writing our vows! It's more of those little details we'll be doing now which is nice. We're definitely going to write our own vows as I love writing mushy things so I'm going to be in my element.

We're actually having a lot of speeches at the wedding, so I'm really excited. I'm not doing a speech, but my dad's doing one and so is my mum, as she's my best friend. My Maid of Honour is doing a speech and so is Niall's best man and even Niall is doing a speech. I'm really excited for that part of the wedding... even if my dad does embarrass me with some of my most embarrassing childhood memories!

On beauty treatments

We both recently had our teeth whitened, Niall particularly was keen to get it done as it was a bit of an insecurity for him. As we're going to have so many pictures for our wedding, we thought now is the perfect time to finally time to take the plunge.

I've also started laser hair removal, partly for the wedding so I don't have to worry about that side of things. It's so painful, It literally feels like someone is plucking your hair whilst like burning it at the same time, but it's definitely worth it. I feel like people don't really talk about hair removal. I’m so here for women who like having hair, but for me personally, I just find it annoying, especially when working out as I constantly have to shave my armpits and end up with a rash.

I've also gradually going blonder for the wedding as I want brighter hair for that summery, beachy vibe. I've been using lots ofOlaplex masks on my hair as it's fine and prone to breakage.

Feeling grateful that: I get to wake up next to my dogs. They make everything feel better.
