Summer outfits

Spring may have only just sprung, but we’re already thinking about the best outfits for summer. And this begins with the key summer 2023 trends that are easy to copy and paste into your own wardrobe. Of course, there will always be linen dresses, cool co-ords and a plethora of sandals to pick from, but we also want to tell you about the cute summer outfits everyone has been copying from the catwalk.

Whether it’s sheer dresses, summer black or sequins, these are the summer outfits for women that you’ll want to try out for yourself.

1) Summer sequins

If the spring/summer 2023 runways have anything to do with it, sequins needn’t retire after party season. Spotted at Valentino, 16Arlington and Michael Kors, sparkles have also been given the nod of approval this season. Influencer Carms shows how to try it out IRL with a zesty two-piece, keeping it firmly in summer territory by adding white accessories. As one of the best going-out outfits for summer, we know sequins are going to be big news all year.

2) Cool co-ords

Invest in a shorts and shirt co-ord and you’ll never regret it – trust us. One of the coolest (read: easiest) summer outfits to pull off, you’ll wear it on repeat whenever the sun is shining. Ombre prints were also spotted all over the runways for spring/summer 2023 at the likes of JW Anderson to Zimmermann, so style influencer Emili Sindlev is ticking off multiple trends in one fell swoop. Note: opt for breathable cotton or linen and it’ll be one of your new favourite casual summer outfits.

3) Y2K cargo pants

With the likes of Hailey Bieber, Kylie Jenner and Emili Ratajkowski as fans, cargo trousers are sticking around this season. For a new season spin on the Y2K trend, wear your favourite pair with a bandeau top and waistcoat. Content creator Chrissy proves it’s one of the best plus-size summer outfits, and we agree.

4) The bomber

In the UK, not every day is guaranteed to have balmy weather throughout summer. For those days when you need a jacket, reach for the bomber. Approved by every stylish A-lister – from Rosie Huntington-Whiteley to Kendall Jenner – these jackets are sticking around to complete all your all your summer outfits. Wear a cropped style with a ‘nice top’ and jeans or stick to an oversized silhouette worn with a mini dress or denim maxi skirt (another key trend for summer).

5) Black, black, black

Usually a colour reserved for the cooler months, Queen of black outfits Jess Hunt shows how it can also be worn for summer. Ticking off multiple trends in one, a black, cut-out maxi dress is an all-round winner. Keep the look on theme with a black bag, matching shoes and lashings of gold jewellery. We expect you’ll want to screenshot this cute summer outfit seeing as it’s one of those fail-safe going out outfits for summer.

6) Bodycon is back

Like most trends from the early 00s, the bodycon dress is making a return for 2023. The way to do it this year is by going for a tulle, stretch style – and as Michelle Juliet Nayla shows, it’s the plus size summer outfit du jour. We can also imagine this style will be one of those summer festival outfits we see on repeat. Not sure where to get them? The high street has so many fun colours and printed styles this season.

7) Underwear as outerwear

Boudoir dressing is a big trend – as seen on the catwalks at Victoria Beckham, Burberry and Versace – and an easy way to try it out is with your lingerie drawer. Cute summer outfits can be created by adding a lacy basque to a pair of jeans (as seen on Love Island’s Kaz), wearing a pretty bra poking out of a shirt or going for a silky could-be-a-nightie dress.

8) Double denim

Make like Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake circa 2001 and try out double denim. This season, no amount is enough, so summer outfits can include jeans, jackets, tops and even matching denim bags and shoes – yes, really! The Canadian tuxedo (aka jeans and a shirt/jacket) would be one of those easy summer outfits for work, too.

From work to weekends, festivals and brunch dates, no doubt these outfits for summer will be your go-to on those ‘I have nothing to wear’ days. All key trends, these are easy ways to wear looks straight off the catwalk. That’s all your summer outfits sorted, then – you’re welcome!
