We can imagine that living with Wayne Rooney isn’t the easiest thing in the world, and his wife Coleen often has our sympathy. But as the former England captain finds himself under huge pressure in his first-ever football management job, we’re told that the tension is mounting at chez Rooney, with Coleen growing increasingly fed up with Wayne and his moods as he battles to save his job and reputation.
“This is the first time that Wayne has ever been under this type of pressure and it’s causing a lot of stress at home,” our Rooney insider says.
“He’s like a grumpy bear, walking around in a mood, and very preoccupied. It’s affecting the whole house – especially Coleen. When he’s like this, they really clash a lot. She knows how hard it is for him, so she’s trying to help him and be supportive. But there’s only so much patience she has, and with four kids and a busy life, she is losing it a lot with him as the tension builds. She needs him to muck in, so when he’s preoccupied and disappears off, or is just sitting there on his phone, she gets mad, and he shouts back. She’s told Wayne, 35, is currently the manager of Derby County, and they have faced relegation this season, which would be hugely humiliating for Wayne. Even if the team survives, questions are being asked about his suitability for the job and whether he has what it takes to be a manager.”

“Coleen’s concerned that this may not end well, so there have been some very tense conversations,” our source explains. “It would be humiliating if he gets sacked, and then it also raises the question of what Wayne would do next. She worries that it would send him on a spiral of partying or gambling again, and who knows where that would end up. She’s already warned him not to even think about it and is making sure she knows where he is all the time.”

After an eventful few years, Coleen thought life had started to settle down, and was initially delighted Wayne had gone into management and was showing a more mature side to his character. But now it feels like she’s picking up the pieces again.
“Wayne is like another child to Coleen. He expects her to sort out everything in his life, and she’s the one who has to make the big life decisions, so it’s a bit weary for her always having to ‘manage’ him and get everything done,” we’re told. “But she’s also worried because maybe Wayne just isn’t cut out for this, and even if he does stay at Derby, this is an indication of what being a manager is like. She keeps on telling him to stick with it, learn the lessons and it will get easier. She is desperate to have a few easy years and get settled a bit – she could just do with some certainty in life.”
