It’s fair to say that Wayne Rooney has messed up a few times over the years, especially when it comes to his wife Coleen. The 34-year-old WAG has had to put up with a lot, including allegations of Wayne cheating, his gambling problems, incidents of drunken behaviour, and arrests – and up until now, the former England captain has remained mostly silent about matters.

However, it has been revealed that Wayne is set to address all of that and more in a shock new documentary about his life and career. And, understandably, Coleen is worried about what will be dragged up.

“There’s been a lot of discussions about what should and shouldn’t go in the film,” says our Rooney insider. “But everybody involved knows that it will only work if it’s authentic and addresses the difficult stuff, so it’s been a big leap of faith doing it. It took a lot of heated conversations between Wayne and Coleen to agree to it all, as she wasn’t on board at all. But Wayne wants to show the world there’s more to him than the bad boy headlines. He also wants to speak up for Coleen – she’s been criticised for always standing by him. But while Coleen is thankful for him wanting to do that, she is terrified about the past being dragged up, people talking about the state of their marriage again and being humiliated. She’s also concerned about the boys hearing some of this stuff, especially as they’re getting older.”

Wayne, 35, and Coleen began dating in 2002, and married in 2008. They have four sons, Kai, 11, Klay, seven, Kit, five, and three-year-old Cass. But, thanks to Wayne, their relationship has been plagued by drama and controversy.

In February 2018 the Rooney family got even bigger as the happy couple welcomed their fourth child into the world - baby Cass!Yup. They broke their tradition with names beginning with 'K' but the little is adorable so who cares, ey?

Back in 2004, it was revealed Wayne had visited prostitutes when he was just 16 and was in the early stages of dating Coleen. He publicly apologised, but in 2010, it was claimed he’d had a threesome with sex workers Jenny Thompson and Helen Wood when Coleen was pregnant with Kai.

Although they tried to move on, Wayne’s antics continued, and saw him lose £500,000 at a casino one night, as well as being arrested for drink-driving while taking home a woman he’d met in a bar while Coleen (then pregnant with Cass) was on holiday. He was also arrested at Washington airport in 2019 for public intoxication and swearing, while playing football in America.

Wayne has since cleaned up his act – he is now manager of Derby County and wants to take his responsibilities seriously. But Coleen knows this new documentary – which is currently the subject of a fierce bidding war between Netflix and Amazon – will be uncomfortable viewing.

“Wayne and Coleen are in a good place right now and want people to know that,” our source explains. “But that’s not to say Coleen doesn’t have her doubts. And she doesn’t want Wayne to blame everything on the pressures of being a footballer, as the positives totally outweigh the negatives. She doesn’t want him to come across as moaning , or blameless.

“Their marriage has survived a lot, and while it will hurt to discuss everything that has gone on, he thinks it’s a good way to move forward.”
