You may call yourself a fan of Lindsay Lohan, you may even think you know her pretty well but chances are you, like us, have been pronouncing her name completely wrong...
Turns out she's not Lindsey Lo-han, she's actually Lindsey Lo-w'n... Yup. Mind blown.
And just in case you think we're pulling your leg, we can confirm that this news comes from a very reliable source: Lindsay Lohan herself.
Filming her very first TikTok (where has this girl been?) which announced her arrival onto the app, the Mean Girls star confirmed the correct pronunciation of her name.
Now that that's all cleared up we can't wait for her to recreate some of her frankly iconic 00s scenes from The Parent Trap and Freaky Friday.
Lindsay Lohan was one of a core group of young women across film, TV, music and the social scene who were just PEAK 00s.
Along with the likes of Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Amanda Bynes and Nicole Ritchie, Lindsay made the transition from squeaky clean teen actress to troubled paparazzi fodder, before eventually retiring from the limelight all together.
Since quitting Hollywood, Lindsay leads a much simpler life. Here’s what she’s up to now.
What is Lindsay Lohan doing now?
It’s fair to say that Lindsay didn’t have the best reputation in Hollywood. By the end of her career, directors had stopped casting her as she often wouldn’t show up to set. But since taking a break from acting, Lindsay’s had plenty of success as a business owner and reality star. In 2019, MTV followed her running her nightclub, Lohan’s Beach House, in Mykonos. The series, aptly titled Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club, lasted just one series, and the business didn’t fare much better as in 2020 she moved to Dubai, where she now lives full time.
However, last year she said she was ready to return to acting, and even released new music.
Lindsay Lohan films
While it’s easy to get caught up in her notoriety as one of the 00s most prolific partyers, Lindsay has actually been in the public eye since she was just a whipper-snapper, starring on Sesame Street at just nine years old and in a TV series called Another World from 1996-1997.
Lindsay Lohan The Parent Trap
But Lindsay’s big break came playing twins Hallie Parker and Annie James in Disney’s 1998 remake of The Parent Trap. Her British accent may have left something to be desired, but the film was a box office success and saw her career as an actress well and truly launched.
Lindsay Lohan Freaky Friday
Lindsay’s next smash would also be a Disney film – playing Anna Colman in another remake, this time the classic 1976 Freaky Friday. The plot sees a stroppy teenager trade places with her mum on Friday 13th.
Lindsay Lohan Mean Girls
In 2004 came the highest point of Lindsay’s career so far – Mean Girls is one of the most famous teen dramas ever and Lindsay’s turn as sweet-natured Cady Heron, who attends school for the first time as a teenager after being home schooled in Africa for her childhood, earned her superstar status overnight.
Lindsay Lohan music
Any teen star worth their salt in the 00s also turned their hand to making a pop-banger or two (right, Hillary Duff?). The same year that Mean Girls launched her to stratospheric success, she also released her debut album, Speak. The album peaked at number four in the US Billboard 200.
Lindsay’s been back in the studio recently and in April 2021 released dance single Back to Me.
Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton and Britney Spears
If you were around in the noughties, chances are you’ll remember the ICONIQUE photo of Lindsay, pop star Britney Spears and socialite Paris Hilton in the back of a car during a wild night of partying.
The year was 2006, and Lindsay was about to embark on a six year run of DUI’s and drugs arrests, and Britney was herself months away from her infamous breakdown.
But at the time, it was just a group of gals having a fun time, right? Paris has since opened up about the infamous car ride, saying on her podcast, "That was a night that Britney and I went out, and we were at the Beverly Hills Hotel, at our friend's party, and we decided to leave to go home.
"We were walking to the car and all a sudden got swarmed by tons of paparazzi. Just as we were walking to the car, that's when Lindsay came up. It was kind of awkward because we were having some drama."

What happened with Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Bynes?
Amanda Bynes, like Lindsay, rose to fame as a child actor and ran into troubles with her mental health in the 00s. The two ran in the same circles and were good friends for a time, but in 2010 Amanda was reported to have called Lindsay a “bitch” and a pal said she “obsessively hated her”.
By 2012 Lindsay had served a number of (very short) prison terms for driving offences a number of times and when Amanda was arrested under similar circumstances, Lindsay tweeted, "Why did I get put in jail and a Nickelodeon star has had NO punishment so far?"
Lindsay Lohan drugs
Like many child stars who came before and after, Lindsay’s life in the limelight eventually lead her to drug and alcohol issues. Although Lindsay herself is desperate for the press to stop rehashing her past, between the years of 2007 and 2013 she became just as well known for her drugs offences as her movie career, with her last big credit in The Canyons in 2013. By then, she had been court ordered to attend rehab no less than six times, and an arrest for cocaine possession.
Lindsay Lohan DUI arrests
As well as the drugs charge, Lindsay was arrested a number of times for driving recklessly and driving under the influence and probation violations. She’s had famously lenient sentences, though, and in 2007 spent a whopping 84 minutes in a California jail before being released due to overcrowding.

Why did Lindsay Lohan quit Hollywood?
By 2013 Lindsay’s notoriety had overshadowed her acting achievements and as a result, reports suggest she was a financial liability on multi-million dollar movie sets. She had also gained a reputation for being unreliable, rude, and for allegedly stealing from sets and individuals, meaning movie offers became thin on the the ground.
But it also seems she wanted to get away from the scrutiny of the industry. In 2018 she told Emirates Woman magazine, "I moved [to Dubai] for that purpose — I don't have to be publicly seen all the time, or discuss what I'm doing.
"I get more done because I don't have the scrutiny and fixation on what I'm doing every second. I work all the time; my mind never stops."
