Love Island star Tom Walker has opened up about the tragic death of a friend who took his own life two years ago in a heartfelt Instagram post.

The 2019 Islander stressed the importance of “talking to someone about how you’re feeling” as he urged fans not to “suffer in silence”.

Tom began, “Two years ago we sadly lost friend of mine. He unfortunately took his own life. It happened out of the blue and came as such a shock.

“As far as I was aware, he didn’t seem to struggle with any kind of mental health issue. And that right there is my point to this post. You don’t know what people are struggling with.”

He continued, “If you are finding aspects of your life tough - it’s SO important to ask for help and open up. Whether that’s from a family member, close friend or anyone else. Reach out and be honest with them and yourself about what’s causing you to feel this way.

“Don’t bury it and try to deal with it on your own. If you’re feeling down but you don’t know why, open up and ask for help. Sit down, with no distractions, and just talk to someone about how you’re feeling.”

Wise words, indeed.

Tom added, “If you’re like me, you’ll start to realise things about yourself as you vocalise them... You’ll be amazed at how true the old saying “a problem shared is a problem halved” really is. Start the conversation. Suffering in silence doesn’t help anyone.

“If you suspect that someone is suffering in silence, reach out. You start that conversation, let them know that you are there for them, give them the time and the opportunity to open up to you.

“Don’t judge, just listen. And most importantly, on any social platform and in person, ALWAYS be kind.”

Tom’s important post comes two months after he revealed he’d secretly married his on/off girlfriend Chloe Rayner in an intimate ceremony.

Alongside a series of wedding day snaps, the reality star wrote, “So... We got married. 💍

"After a couple of crazy years we decided to start the year off with a bit of positivity. Last weekend, 2.1.21 we tied the knot COVID style.

“We’ve been a long distance couple, on and off for almost ten years now! Life experiences, all the challenges of the past few years and then plenty of thinking time, has made me realise that there is only one person I’d like to spend the rest of my life with.

“So we made the decision not to waste anymore time and commit to spending rest of our lives together.”
