When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sat down with Oprah Winfrey in an explosive tell-all last year, it was clear there was still a lot of anger about the way they were treated during their time as full-time working royals.
Although they initially said the Oprah interview – in which they cited racism in the royal family, and Meghan claimed her sister-in-law Kate Middleton made her cry – would draw a line under everything, both Meghan, 40, and Harry, 37, have continued to speak out. And with the highly-anticipated launch of Meghan’s new podcast, Archetypes, this summer, we’re told she still has scores to settle.
“Meghan knows there is a lot riding on this podcast after signing such a huge deal with Spotify,” heat’s royal source says.
“She wants to speak about the things that are important to her and correct the wrongs that she feels have been done against her. She’s proven over the past few years that she’s not afraid to upset those in power and that won’t change. Being popular is not her main aim – she knows she’ll get criticism for whatever she says, so she wants her truth out there, even if means ruffling more feathers, especially in royal circles.”
Meghan – who is mum to two-year-old Archie and ten-month-old Lilibet – has promised to use her audio broadcasts to look at the way women are portrayed in the media and the “labels that try to hold them back”. She has long been a campaigner for women’s rights and equality and, we’re told, she feels this podcast will be the perfect platform on which to discuss controversial topics.

But it’s her relationship with the royals, and in particular Kate Middleton, that listeners will be most interested in. Kate, 40, and Meghan have had a strained relationship ever since the Sussexes quit their official roles in January 2020. Kate was said be upset with Harry and Meghan for criticising the family in their Oprah interview, especially when Harry claimed Prince William, 39, was “trapped” in the institution. Meghan also addressed claims that she made Kate cry during a dress fitting before her 2018 wedding, asserting, “Actually, she made me cry,” and claiming Kate sent flowers to apologise. The two women are not thought to be in touch very much at all, but Meghan is willing to discuss issues with her sister-in-law in the podcast, if it comes up.
“Meghan still feels angry about the way Kate is treated by the British public and media, compared to the criticism she gets,” our source explains.
“It’s like Kate can do no wrong and, although Meghan has addressed some of their issues, she still feels hurt and let down by Kate – and the rest of the royal family. She feels she wasn’t given enough support by everyone when she first met Harry, and it’s something that still upsets her to this day. She regrets not speaking out earlier and has vowed that she will never be silenced again.”
We have a feeling that Kate and William may not be subscribing to this podcast anytime soon.
