Like most parents, Rio Ferdinand was plunged into the deep end last year, after he found himself homeschooling his three kids, Lorenz, 14, Tate, 12, and 10-year-old Tia. Add to that the arrival of his and wife Kate’s first child together in December, their baby son Cree, and it’s no surprise that Rio refers to the past year as “more hectic than ever”. But according to the former footballer, he and Kate still make sure they have periods alone as a couple.
“Kate and I always try to find the time to spend some quality time together,” says the 42 year old, who married the former TOWIE star in a lavish ceremony in Turkey in 2019.
“We’ve both got such busy schedules, and Cree has made things even busier, but we’ve still managed to find time for ourselves. It’s mainly been at night – we like to watch series together, like Line of Duty and Peaky Blinders. But I’m looking forward to heading out on a proper date night soon – Scott’s is our favourite restaurant.”

Meanwhile, Rio’s lamented in the past how his career as an international footballer made him miss out on pivotal moments in his kids’ lives. But he says the pandemic made him realign his priorities.
“I’m really grateful for the extra time [lockdown] has given me with Kate and the kids, and that I’ve been able to spend more time at home following Cree’s birth,” he says. “
We really make the most of everyday moments now. We’re always active and do things as a family, but it’s been nice to have the opportunity to do that more and reset a little bit from our busy lives.”
