If you’re obsessed with Brand Beckham, you’ll doubtless have noticed that the mother/daughter-in-law relationship between Victoria Beckham and Nicola Peltz has come on leaps and bounds recently.
Rumours of that frosty rift between them have been replaced by sky-high social media interaction – think a lot of “love yous” and “kisses” – and frequent glamorous snaps together.
And the recent Paris Fashion Week, where designer Vic showcased her latest collection, presented a golden opportunity for the women to show the world just how close they’ve grown.
In a picture-tells-a-thousand-stories moment, Nicola sparked a sartorial storm by rewearing her mother-in-law’s iconic Dolce & Gabbana biker jacket from the noughties. And now we’re told one person in particular has influenced the patched-up relationship: step forward, Brooklyn Beckham.
As heat has previously revealed, David and Vic’s eldest child has been caught in the middle of his mum and wife’s alleged falling out. Now, an insider tells us, “Brooklyn is so relieved he isn’t stuck between the two most important women in his life any more, and Victoria is enjoying having Nicola in the family. Wearing Victoria’s D&G jacket was Nicola’s way of showing that the feud is over, and that she admires her mother-in-law’s style and wants to carry on her legacy.
“Vic was honoured that she would pay tribute to her like that, as Nicola knew that comparisons would be made – it shows they both want to put Brooklyn first. This isn’t the first time Nicola has worn something similar to Victoria, but this is the most obvious statement yet and it cements her place as part of Brand Beckham.”
Relations between Vic, 49, and Nicola, 29, were allegedly fractured shortly after the actress and billionaire heiress tied the knot with aspiring chef Brooklyn, 25, almost two years ago in the States, where the young couple are now based.
In August 2022, a source claimed the women were not on talking terms and Nicola hadn’t wanted Victoria to be part of wedding planning, with the feud rumours fuelled by their non-existent online interaction and the fact the bride had not opted for a VB-designed dress.
Nicola – whose directorial debut Lola was released last month – later cleared this up in an interview with her husband, saying, “I was going to [wear a Victoria Beckham dress] and I really wanted to, and then a fewmonths down the line, [Victoria] realised that her atelier couldn’t do it, so I had to pick another dress. She didn’t say you can’t wear it – I didn’t say I didn’t want to wear it.” Brooklyn added that “everyone gets along”, and Nicola went one step further in another interview, stating, “It’s not a feud”.
And the pair have done a commendable job of living up to that recently. Even though Nicola didn’t walk in Victoria’s Paris show as reports predicted, the women did pose together during pre-show prep and fittings, and Brooklyn’s wife proudly sat on the front row. Nicola also championed her designer mother-in-law for her Lola premiere, getting decked out in a custom VB look, which she said she was “obsessed with”.
Elsewhere, while the Beckhams and the Peltzes might not have socialised on the regular, the transatlantic families appear to be on better terms. For Brooklyn’s 25th birthday last week, the entire family – Vic, David, 48, Romeo, 21, Cruz, 19 and Harper, 12 – hit Oswald’s private members’ club in London’s Mayfair to celebrate, with Nicola and her mum Claudia joining them for the occasion. And though many might have questioned whether the united front is genuine, our source says it’s no showmance.
We’re told, “It hasn’t been the easiest of relationships, but things between Victoria and Nicola are the best they’ve ever been and it’s having a positive effect on all the family. They’re very similar people and are both ambitious, which is what caused the issues in the first place. But they’ve talked things through, and while they won’t always see eye- to-eye, there is a lot of mutual respect between them. Nicola was always determined to do things her way, but she has mellowed and now she sees how much Victoria has achieved, she realises it’s much better to have her on her side.”
And there’s another factor at play – Harper has shared a close bond with Nicola ever since she started dating her big brother in 2019. In Paris, Nicola took her TikTok followers “backstage with twinnie” as she and Harper filmed a video together, which has been viewed over 11million times. Their sisterly bond was also apparent last year when Nicola marked Harper’s 12th birthday by sharing a photo of them rocking matching butterfly tattoos (fake ones, obvs).
And our source says this dynamic, as well as the fact that Nicola is now the only significant other on the scene, is even more reason for Victoria to make an effort with their relationship.
“What with Romeo splitting from Mia Regan recently, Nicola has proven to Victoria that she is a family girl – and not just her own family. Victoria has relied on Nicola more and more, and Nicola has also been great with Harper.
“Obviously, Nicola will always be super-close to her family, and she and Brooklyn have no intention of returning to the UK, but it’s good for Victoria to know they’re on the same page.”
