Despite all the money, designer clothes, fancy holidays and luxury homes all over the world, the safety and happiness of their children is always going to come first for David and Victoria Beckham. So, they were understandably left shaken when a masked intruder broke into the upstairs of their London house while they were downstairs with their ten-year-old daughter Harper.

According to reports, they were only made aware of the burglary – which happened at the end of February, but only came to light last week – when 17-year-old son Cruz returned home from a night out and spotted a spare bedroom had been ransacked, with glass from the broken window lying on the floor. Now we’re told Victoria has been left fearing for her family’s safety.

“Vic is now worried about being alone in their London home, and is refusing to stay there without David,” our source says. “They had state- of-the-art security in place already, but they’re ramping it up even more. She has been having nightmares – even during the day, she feels jumpy. It’s a big house and, right now, she doesn’t feel safe there.

“They feel they were targeted and can’t shake the feeling of knowing that someone was watching them and casing the house. Every noise, every sound from the garden and street, has had her on edge for the last month. She’s trying to put on a brave face for the kids, especially Harper, but she doesn’t want to let her out of her sight. It’s really uncomfortable, trying to get her head around the fact they were at home while there was an intruder upstairs.”

The family are set to spend the next few weeks in Miami to support David’s team Inter Miami at the start of the US Major League season (19-year-old Romeo also plays for the reserve team), and to attend eldest son Brooklyn’s nuptials to Nicola Peltz. And we’re told Vic has been looking forward to the break and the chance to get away from London, even though she is stressing out about the wedding.

The Beckhams have lived in their £30million mansion since they moved back from LA in 2013. They also have a home in the Cotswolds – which was broken into twice in a month in 2018, while the family were away – but the London property is where they’ve spent much of their time in the UK. Our source says they loved how it afforded them a more normal life as part of a community, but now that has been tarnished.

“In LA, they lived locked away in a compound with full-time security, and their Cotswolds home has a guarded entrance, as well as other measures,” our insider says.

“At first, they really worried about the risk of living on a London street, with a front door that anyone could walk up to. But it’s given the kids a chance to be more grounded, and they appreciated that. They park their cars on the street and walk in and out by themselves all the time. They were very comfortable living there – the kids walked to school and went to the local playgrounds, and the older kids could come and go as they liked.

“But now Vic is on high alert and wondering if it was a mistake to live like this. She doesn’t feel comfortable with any of them going out on their own. The whole affair has really shaken them up.”
