Despite the name, Love Island isn’t all about love. While about 70 per cent of the series is taken up by grafting, flirting, and hideaway visits, the other 30 per cent is challenges. Granted, they can be a bit hit and miss, and while we sometimes have to sit through cringeworthy ‘pass the ice cube’ games, we also get the joy of the Snog, Marry, Pie challenge.
However, Love Island 2024’s Snog Marry Pie got a bit more heated than usual, and that’s mostly due to the behaviour of one Joey Essex.
It turns out that this year’s challenge got even more spirited than we saw at home. heat sat down with recently dumped Islanders Lolly Hart and Konnor Ewudzi to find out what happened, and why it resulted in Joey being sent to a medic.
If you’ve been watching this series, it might not surprise you that the pie thrower in question was in fact Grace Jackson.
Lolly said, “The way Grace pied him, it literally looked like he’d got whiplash. And [the producers] called him straight away to see the medic just to check that his neck was okay. It was quite brutal.”
Konnor agreed, “It was. It was funny, but she’s gone to pie him and I looked behind him and the cream must have travelled an extra like 20 metres.” Well, Love Island hath no fury like a woman scorned.
Joey and Grace have had a tumultuous journey in that villa. When she first entered as a bombshell, viewers were shocked to learn that she and Joey had dated for three months on the outside, and the pair immediately picked up where they left off despite Joey having a previous connection with scouser Samantha Kenny.
However, once Joey met Jessy Potts, it was game over for him and Grace, and he quickly chose to recouple with the 25-year-old bombshell.
While Grace moved on with Reuben Collins before they were both recently dumped, we can’t imagine it would be easy to be stuck in a villa with your ex for 24 hours a day.
If you ask us, Joey got off a bit easy in that challenge.
