Alongside the likes of Spandau Ballet, Wham!, Eurythmics and Culture Club, pop rock duo Tears For Fears dominated the charts in the 80s with smash hit singles like Mad World, Shout and Everybody Wants to Rule the World.
But, like many bands at the peak of their career, Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith battled creative differences and acrimoniously split in 1991.
The pair reunited nine years later and released another album titled Everybody Loves A Happy Ending in 2004, but it’s been 17 years since we’ve had any new music. So, just what have they been up to since then and where are they in 2021? We’ve got all the answers…

After parting ways from Curt in 1991, Roland went on to release two more albums under the name Tears For Fears. He also released a solo album in 2001 and worked as a producer for vocalists Oleta Adams and Emiliana Torrini.After reuniting with Curt in 2000, they released another album in 2004 and have continued to tour the world ever since. Roland also published his debut novel Sex, Drugs & Opera in 2014.

Since the band first split, Curt has released five solo albums. He's also tried his hand at acting and worked as a public speaker at a number of social media, technology and creative conferences.
Tears For Fears have today announced that they have reunited to release their first album since 2004. The project, titled The Tipping Point, will be released on 25 February 2022 via Concord Records.
Alongside the exciting announcement, the duo have also released the audio and music video for the album's title track.

Speaking about their big comeback, Robert said, "Before everything went so right with this album, everything first had to go wrong, it took years, but something happens when we put our heads together."
Curt added, "If that balance doesn’t work on a Tears For Fears album, the whole thing just doesn’t work. To put it in simple terms, a Tears For Fears record and what people perceive to be the sound of Tears For Fears – is the stuff we can both agree on."
Over the years, Tears For Fears scored five UK Top 10 singles and two UK Number 1 albums. In 2003, their song Mad World was covered by Michael Andrews and Gary Jules for the soundtrack to the Jake Gyllenhaal film Donnie Darko. It won the race for the UK's Christmas number one later that year.
Ten years later, Lorde released a cover of Tears For Fears’ song Everybody Wants to Rule the World as part of the soundtrack to The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
