Gogglebox returned to our screens last night for the first episode of a brand new series and paid special tribute to Leon Bernicoff, dedicating the episode to the former cast member after his death last year.
A touching tribute, which read: “In loving memory of Leon Bernicoff,” appeared as the episode ended.
Leon, who had been part of the Gogglebox line-up with his wife June since the first series, sadly passed away in December after a short illness.
Gogglebox viewers took to Twitter during the show to praise Channel 4 for their dedication to Leon and also shared tributes of their own.
“Enjoyed tonight’s Gogglebox and fitting tribute for Leon at the end,” wrote one, while another said “Aw so sweet they dedicated it to @LeonandJune.”

Some fans declared that the show wasn’t the same with Leon, with one fan writing: “Missed Leon tonight on #Gogglebox along with June, he’s left a huge gap – good to see the show back though.”
Leon’s wife June had previously said that she would no longer be appearing on the show after his death but revealed that she was still watching the show.
“Sitting comfortably, drink poured, snacks ready, in pj’s waiting for 9pm C4 Series 11, GOOGLEBOX! Let the entertainment begin!!” she tweeted, and continued to reply to fan’s tributes to Leon all night.
Leon wasn’t the only person missing from the show, as Chris Butland-Steed announced that he would no longer be taking part. Chris, who appeared on the show alongside his friend Stephen Webb, revealed earlier this week that he’s leaving the show to pursue other opportunities and will be replaced by Stephen’s mum Pat.
He issued a statement on Twitter which read: “After 10 series, a wedding and a helluva lot of takeaways, our lovely dogs and I have decided it’s time to say a very fond farewell to our Gogglebox family. I’ve loved every minute of being on the show and will never forget the amazing things it’s allowed me to do.”
