He came to Strictly Come Dancing as a relative unknown – to anyone over the age of 18 at least – but Harvey Cantwell, aka HRVY, is leaving the show with thousands more fans. Thanks to his cheeky chappy innocence, and undeniable dancing talent, we’ve really taken to the 21-year-old singer, and it seems we’re not the only ones…
What kind of reaction have you been getting from your fans while you’ve been on Strictly?
Oh, they’ve loved it. They’ve loved seeing me every Saturday night. I think they’re used to watching videos of me on their phones and on social media, and listening to my music, but to see me on a TV, it’s great. And it’s not just them who’ve watched it, their families have been, too. I think the fans really like that, because now their mums and dads know who I am as well.

Have you had lots of people sliding into your DMs?
Lots of women and nans. I’m getting those kinds of DMs! Janette [Manrara, HRVY’s pro dance partner] has had girls contact her saying, “Can you please tell Harvey that I love him and I’m a big fan?” She’s my gatekeeper! One of the older ladies who contacted me said that, after watching my tango, she fancied me, because I was a bit more manly. So, there are lots of ladies out there who want a toy boy, it seems.
You seem to have become very close to Maisie Smith – are you hoping to take her on a date?
Oh, I’m sure me and Maisie will go out for dinner at some point. There’s plenty of time for that. I think she’s a really nice girl.

What have you learned from your Strictly experience?
I feel like it’s taught me a lot. I know that sounds really clichéd, but it has. Being in the training room, when you think you can’t do it any more, and Janette’s like, “Let’s do it one more time.” And I’m like, “I don’t think my body can take it.” And then we end up getting through it. It’s all those little moments that actually really make a big impression on you. I’m so happy I’ve done Strictly. It’s also been an amazing thing to be a part of a show and give entertainment to a nation that I think really needs it at the minute.
Do you feel like you’ve grown up a lot?
Yeah. I feel like I’m just becoming more and more of a man every single day.
HRVY will compete against Maisie Smith, Jamie Laing and Bill Bailey in the Strictly Come Dancing final which airs on BBC One at 6pm on Saturday 19 December.
