I’m A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Herehas been on our screens for almost 20 years. "20 years?", we hear you cry. Yes, as in two DECADES. And when it comes to the rules, we know them like the back of our hands:
- Don’t tell them what you’re afraid of.
- Don’t sneak in food in your underwear.
- Do the trials.
- Marry Joe Swash.
But now it seems there are some secret ones too, if you can believe it. Yep, some of this year's contestants have been spilling all the tea after returning to the real world following the end of the series - including third-placed Frankie Bridge.
So without further a digeridoo (remember, because it used to be in Australia) here are the I'm a Celeb rules you never even knew about….
CHECK the secret I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! rules you never knew existed
Secret I'm A Celeb rules
There are substitute celebs if someone fails the medical
In an exclusive interview with Closer Online Ferne McCann revealed that she "was never meant to be on I'm A Celeb."She said, "I was a substitute because someone didn't make the medical for some reason - it happens on TV - and I was a replacement. I'm totally happy with that."I found out two weeks before. It was such a whirlwind because I had an interview and I wasn't that well known." Two weeks after the interview she was flown out to Australia and the rest is history.
You can't be on the show if you've already been in Celebrity Big Brother
Cheryl appeared on a recent episode of the podcast The Hundamental Guide To Life where she talked about how she wasn't allowed to go on I'm a Celeb. When asked is she wanted to go on the show she said, "Absolutely yeah, I've desperately wanted to, for the whole of my life even pre Big Brother I wanted to do the jungle. The jungle was my main thing I wanted to do. "But unfortunately, and I don't know if any of your listeners will know this, but if you've done Big Brother you cannot go into the jungle. But if you've done the jungle, you can go into Big Brother."
You're only allowed to take in the essentials
Frankie Bridge revealed during an Instagram Q&A, that the campmates are only allowed to take in a select few items. She admitted, "We get to take in six sets of underwear or bikinis, any medication needed that's been approved, glasses/contacts, braces, a hair band, jewellery is worn at your own risk. That's it!"
Asking advice
Stars are not allowed to ask previous contestants for advice or any tips and are banned from revealing to ANYONE besides closest family they're on the show before it's offically revealed. Well, this year's Danny Miller broke the rules by asking friend, former co-star and 2016 contestant Adam Thomas for advice. Danny told The Sun, "I feel like I am one step ahead as I've asked him loads of questions". The advice hasn't come in that handy – have you seen him being sick? ud83eudd22
Knickers
Seriously, I'm A Celeb bosses put a limit on everything to make the stars' experiences more difficult – and that includes knickers. While Frankie Bridge snuck her's out of camp for a wash during the evacuation due to Storm Arwen, former Eastenders star Rita Simons admitted to This Morning that she had 'smuggled in extra knickers' during her time on the show in 2018.
No contact with the outside world
Celebrities are not allowed any contact with their loved ones, that's what makes the letters from home real a tearjerker (except for when Wayne Bridge mentioned wife Frankie's farting). But Emmerdale actor Danny Miller's family didn't get the memo and flew a plane over the castle pulling a banner of support for the teary celeb. Unfortunately for them (and Danny) the actor missed it – maybe they can they get a refund?
Clocks
Just like on Love Island (yes, really) the celebs are not allowed to know the time, which we bet leads to messed up body clocks and some arguments in camp.
You have to survive three days
I'm A Celeb stars can be paid anything from £13,000 (sorry Hollyoaks' Malique Thompson-Dwyer) to Caitlyn Jenners' reported £500,000. But to be paid celebs MUST last a minimum of three days. With MIC's Spencer Matthews and vlogger Jack Maynard both leaving without getting paid. Gemma Collins luckily managed to stick it out right until day three – we're sure it was just a coincidence.

It was recently revealed why the stars always wear red socks and no it’s not a fashion statement – though the same cannot be said for those gillets 😍.
It turns out that it’s all to do with blood.... Gross.
Speaking to Woman’s Own, Bob, who was the on-site medic back in Australia revealed the reason. He said the stars must wear the famous red socks so that blood from any insects and their bites down show up on screen.
We told you it was gross.
The show’s bosses came under fire after being reported to police for releasing foreign bugs like cockroaches and spiders into Wales.
At the time, spokesman for the show denied the reports saying, “They are only ever released in a contained area and collected immediately after filming”.
