Love Islandâs Brett Staniland has revealed producers cut a scene from the show after he pleaded for them not to air it.
The model and PHD student only had a brief stay in the villa, where he coupled up with Priya Gopaldas before she got âthe ickâ and placed him firmly in the friend zone.
The pair were dumped together after being voted the least compatible couple and now, almost two weeks on from the final where Millie Court and Liam Reardon were crowned champions, Brett has been discussing the behind-the-scenes support he received while in the villa.
While chatting on IGTV with close friend Chelsea McGeehee earlier this week, Brett revealed he paid regular visits to the show psychiatrist and praised producers and the welfare team for listening to his concerns.
He said, âI was going to speak to the psychiatrist and welfare team as regularly as I could. Even on good days and bad days just to like check in.â
Chelsea then asked, âDo you think they take into account what you say to the psychiatrist when it comes to editing?â
Brett explained that while conversations with the psychiatrist are confidentially, heâd personally asked bosses not to air a particular scene after feeling like heâd âoversharedâ.

He said, âThere was one thing that I was conscious of that I shared, and I literally went to see the psychiatrist and went to see production and I was like âIâm really adamant on this not being shown, pleaseâ.
âThey did what they could, they said, âWeâve got the conversation, itâs not going to be aired, youâve got nothing to worry aboutâ. It gave me peace of mind.â
The 27 year old, who has an identical twin named Scott, continued, âI felt like I'd overshared and was really conscious of what I was saying to people â it was really personal about my life, and I just needed to speak to someone.
"They were great with me and helped me realise how I am with sharing stuff like that. So, it was good, they're on hand all the time."

Liam Reardon addresses claims he knew Millie Court BEFORE Love Island
Before the show started earlier this year, ITV laid out their duty of care protocols for the Islanders which included âat least eightâ therapy sessions for each contestant as well as bespoke training on the impact of social media, handling potential negativity and financial management.
Former Chief Medical Officer Dr Paul Litchfield, who was appointed to review Love Island's participant welfare processes in 2018, said, âSocietyâs appreciation of the importance of mental health and wellbeing has grown enormously in recent years and the pandemic has brought that into even sharper focus. Reducing the risk of harm, where possible, is an imperative but promoting good mental health is also necessary. ITVâs evolving commitment to these issues, backed up by tangible action, is an example to others in the industry and beyond.â
