Hang on – did Love Island’s Hugo Hammond and Amy Day have an unaired row?

This year’s Love Island keeps throwing surprises at us and last night’s episode was no exception when a whopping FOUR Islanders were dramatically dumped from the villa following a public vote.

Hugo Hammond and Amy Day, Tyler Cruickshank and Clarisse Juliette and Sam Jackson and Mary Bedford were the three couples who received the least votes, but in a shock twist, the rest of the contestants were given the opportunity to save one boy and one girl. They chose to save Tyler and Mary, meaning Hugo, Amy, Clarisse and Sam were given the boot.

Although Hugo and Amy had been getting to know each other after he returned from the second villa with her in tow, their awkward exit interview appeared to suggest they were no longer an item as Hugo bemoaned his “tragic” love life in front of a stunned Amy.

The uncomfortable moment left viewers flocking to social media to question if the pair had secretly called things off in unaired scenes, with one asking, “Have we missed something? I thought Hugo and Amy were happy getting to know each other??”

“No way has Hugo gone off Amy already,” remarked another, while a third tweeted, “Have I missed something?? Did Hugo pie Amy last night or something??”

Fans’ theories have only been fuelled by Amy’s post-villa comments after she branded Hugo “FAKE” and claimed she was “messed around” by him.

Responding to accusations her feelings for the former PE teacher weren’t real, Amy hit back, “They were, they really were and everyone could see that. I think at the end, everyone questioned why on earth he just wasn’t reciprocating what I was giving. I tried.

“I was being 100 per cent genuine and real and I was a little bit messed around, but I loved the experience. I’ve definitely learned what I don’t want and how I should be treated in a relationship."

When asked how she feels about Hugo now, Amy added, “Fake – because he wasn’t telling me that he didn’t like me. I do wish I’d opened up and re-coupled with someone else. Also, 100 per cent I did not sleep with Hugo."

Amy’s comments come after her mum Sian was forced to defend her daughter against claims she “faked” her romance with Hugo to get into the main villa.

“Some people might think Amy isn’t particularly into Hugo but as her mum I can honestly say it’s genuine," she told The Sun.

“Her past boyfriends have always been someone she laughs with, banters with and someone with a great personality and we knew beforehand he was more her type having spoken to her that any of the other boys in there.”

She continued, “Amy’s dad Phillip and I have never really watched Love Island up until now so it’s been a real eye opener, especially the duvet cover which was more than enough for any mum to see. Knowing Amy though it was all harmless fun.”
