Former Love Island star Niall Aslam has hit out at the “set up” show after opening up about suffering from stress-induced psychosis after quitting the villa just days into the fourth series in 2018.
The ex-Islander released a video titled, “How I went from being in Love Island to a psychiatric hospital in nine days,” on TikTok in which he spilled the beans about his brief stint on the show.
Niall claims that producers orchestrated conversations behind the scenes as he told his followers that the show “wasn’t as it seemed”.
He said, “Before Love Island I was a normal social work student in Coventry, and call me naive but I used to think the show was all as it seemed.
“As some of you may know, I have autism spectrum disorder - that the show were aware of because they get your whole medical record. This might explain why I thought the show was all as it seems as I'm quite a literal thinker.
“When I got there, there were loads of little things that I didn't see coming; I thought you could just chat to whoever you want but it was all very set up in ways of like: ‘Don't talk to her', or: ‘No, you like that person.'"

Following her split from Jack, Dani was accused of 'cheating' with her ex-boyfriend Sammy Kimmence, after snaps of them kissing emerged. However, the Love Island winner totally denied the rumours.

However, the former Islander later told fans how she's been working with her family and friends to come up with ideas of how to recreate her Instagram, to bring back the 'sassy' Rosie her fans know.
Niall added, “I'm quite an unpredictable person and I think they want to be able to know what you're going to do next. The stress of this on top of quite a lot of other things started to really get to me."
The 25-year-old reality star promised to upload more videos about his time in the villa in the future as he urged fans to comment and like his post.
Responding to the clip, an ITV spokesperson said, “All Islanders are free to make their own decisions regarding who they couple up with and the public vote or format decides who leaves the island, not producers.”

So, why did Niall leave Love Island?
Niall’s shock exit from the Love Island villa took place just over a week after the 2018 series launched. It was claimed at the time that he quit for “personal reasons”, with Niall later opening up about his Asperger’s syndrome.
In 2020, he released a candid video about his mental health on social media in which he revealed he battled stress-induced psychosis after leaving the villa.
Niall said, “Essentially what it is, you get so overwhelmed that you lose touch with reality. You kind of hallucinate, you don’t know what’s going on, you’re not fully aware of your surroundings, you’re not safe, you need other people to look after you.
“It takes quite a lot of time to come down from that, but when you come down from it you really come down, you go into a really deep depression. I was at the hospital for two weeks but in my head I wasn’t fully aware of what was going on, I thought it was because of my Asperger’s.”
