We asked celebrity hair stylist Michael Douglas for his tips on styling the chunky highlights trend and what to ask your hairdresser, when achieving the look.
"The trick was not to have highlights, but to ask for ‘slices’." he tells heat.
"Normally, when you have highlights, the section of hair is weaved, resulting in little strands of the section lightened. But, for the '90s look, we colour the whole slice (not weave it) - this gives a great effect, and gives a strong colour to the hair. The other key trick was not to go too light – go for honey and peanut-type shades."
He also recommends getting "a medium, classic layered hair cut like Rachel from Friends had (circa ‘98). These layers mean you can load body into the hair, while keeping the length."
We're more than ready to relive 'The Rachel' haircut, tbh.
