There's nothing quite like a dash of highlighter in all the right places to make you look (and feel) more alive. Thanks to Instagram influencers, highlighter has taken centre stage in recent years and there are more options to buy than ever before.
But with so many to choose from, how do you know which is right for you? And once you've found your perfect highlighter, how on earth do you know if you're doing it right?
In a bid to steal the a-list glow, we’ve investigated the best ways to get luminous, glossy skin plus tricks to highlight your best bits whatever your skin tone.
Which type of highlighter is right for you?
Powder highlighter
You've more than likely seen a powder highlighter before now - they're everywhere. Similar to your pressed face powder, you can apply it on top of your powder with a fan brush or even your fingers for a soft glow.
Liquid highlighter
Liquid highlighter can give you a serious glow. It's crazy-pigmented and blends into skin perfectly. Apply it under your foundation in the usual places or even mix in a couple of drops for an all over glow - great for hangover days.
Stick highlighter
If you like stick foundation, you'll probably get along with a stick highlighter, too. Super easy to use, you literally draw on the highlight in the areas you want it and blend it with your finger to set. Need a quick glow fix in the morning? Get yourself a stick.
Brick highlighter
Brick highlighters are great for experimenting with different colours on different parts of your face. Why not try gold for the brow bones and cupid's bow, pink for the cheeks and white for your inner eyes? You can also sweep your brush across the whole brick to create your own unique highlight colour.
Jelly highlighter
Not quite a liquid, jelly highlighter gives you a real luminous glow. It's a multi-use product, meaning you can mix it into your foundation, wear it under make-up, over make-up or even as eyeshadow.
Where do you apply highlighter?
The whole idea behind highlighting is to accentuate all the points on your face that the light would naturally hit.
For a minimal, natural look, apply highlighter on your cheek bones, cupid's bow and brow bones.
Going full glow? You can also pop highlighter on the bridge of your nose, chin, in the middle of your forehead and on your inner eyes.
