Naomi Genes reveals her beauty routine

We love a bit of self-care and all this time at home has really given us an excuse to look after ourselves inside and out. Each week, we'll be asking the celeb lot to share their Sunday self-care routines, because taking care of yourself is more important than ever.

With over 900,000 followers and counting, Naomi Genes is a mega-babe on Instagram who regularly shares her tonal #OOTD, beauty tips and adventures with her one-year-old daughter Nola. Naomi recently brought out her own collection with InTheStyle, which included cosy loungewear, shackets and a glorious oversized blazer.

Naomi chatted exclusively to heat about skincare favourites, mum-shaming and her favourite beauty budget buy for dark under eye circles....

On the most surprising thing about being a mum

Naomi Genes

Naomi is proud mum to one-year-old Nola and has opened up about how motherhood is harder than she ever anticipated.

She explained, "People say that kids change your life and when I first had her, I was like ‘no way, I can do everything like normal! I can go out for coffee, go out for lunch with her not phased.’"

"But when when they hit one-years-old and start walking, your life actually gets thrown upside down. I don’t think I was ready for the complete life change, if I’m honest. It was just completely not what I expected. Everything just revolves around her. Your routine completely revolves around her. I think it was just a life change when she hit one. I wasn’t expecting how demanding they get at one-years-old."

If asked if she ever experiences mum-shaming online, something that women with large followings often encounter, she credits her followers for being there for her when times are tough.

"Not really, to be honest. My platform is quite positive. If I’m faced with mum guilt or if she’s having a funny week, I normally speak on my stories about it, but I normally just get nice advice, no judging. My followers are really nice, positive and always have my back!"

On self-care Sundays

Naomi is a huuuge fan of a self-care Sunday and shares how it's always been her routine, even before she became a mum. We love to see it.

"I will usually run a bath, scrub my body, get out and fake tan, hair mask in (Naomi loves the Living Proof range) and basically, make sure my body is nice and bronzed. For my skin, I always do an exfoliate, a face mask and a nice face mist. I put on some clean pyjamas and again just watch more Netflix. That’s all I seem to do!"

"My favourite fake tan is a new one by Bondi Sands, it’s the Pure Self Tanning Sleep Mask. It’s incredible. You literally pop it on before bed and you wake up with glowy, bronzed skin. It’s amazing. "

On #extra beauty treatments

The celeb and influencer lot are notorious for getting fancy-shmancy treatments done in the name of beauty. We all remember the bizarre 'vampire facial' loved by Kim K, right? So, what's Naomi's stance on boujee beauty procedures?

"I normally, before Covid, have monthly Hydrafacials. I think they are key. The stuff they can pull out of your skin is crazy! I’m someone who keeps on top of their skincare - twice a week I’ll exfoliate and do a mask. But they’re really good for cleaning the skin and pumping more hydration back into the skin. They’re amazing."

"I love a Gua Sha, I probably use it three times a week with a facial oil. I literally sit in bed whilst copying a tutorial on TikTok!"

On skincare favourites

Naomi stresses how skincare is something she never, ever skips and is a huge priority in her life. The secret to good skin?

"Double cleansing! Don’t use face wipes." she laughs, "There’s this video going around where they put make-up on an orange and then they’ll wipe it with a face wipe and you can still see all the make-up in the holes. That’s how it’s sitting in your pores, you really need to double cleanse to get into them. I think that’s what causes most people’s breakouts, to be honest. They’re not thoroughly cleansing the skin. After two cleanses and an exfoliating pad, there’s still make-up coming off on that pad! And also SPF. I love the Skinceuticals one, it also sits so nicely under make-up, it’s like a primer."

The 26-year-old also shared her mammoth skincare routine and don't mind us over here taking notes...

"For the first cleanse I use the Elemis Cleansing Balm, because that really lifts off the make-up and then I wash that away with a wet cloth. Then I’ll go with ZO Skin Health Exfoliating Cleanse, that one is incredible. So that’s the second cleanse and I’ll go in with a washcloth. My skincare routine is actually really long, I’m realising this now! Then I’ll go in with the Elemis Cleansing Pads, it’s almost like a peel but it’s not. Then I’ll go in with my Skinceuticals Hyaluronic Acid and then I’ll pop on my Elemis moisturiser. I’ll always go in after with a face mist after and a lip balm."

Are there any budget beauty buys that Naomi swears by? "I love The Ordinary Caffeine Eye Serum, it’s great for under eye circles which is something I definitely need. "

On sleep

Naomi geeks out over her sleep routine and we can totally relate. We can't sleep unless we've doused our pillow with lavender spray, alright?

"I use the Slip Silk pillowcase, even my fiancé uses one too - very boujee of him! Then I use The White Company sleep cream and I pop that on the top of my back and my neck. Then I use a mist on my pillows, so lots of lavender!"

On taking a great outfit pics for Instagram

Naomi Genes influencer

If there is anything Naomi knows, it's how to take a babein' OOTD photo for the 'gram. But what are her top tip for getting a good shot?

"I don’t take long taking my pictures. I feel like the longer I focus on it and the more I over-analyse where I’m taking my photo, the worse it does for some reason! I feel like the more candid shots do amazing online at the moment. I think, try to focus on your own personal style and what you like to see on Instagram. I see a lot of imitating at the minute, so I just think you need to stay true to yourself."

"Make sure the sunlight is in front of you, but stand in the shade, if that makes sense? Oh and Shutterburst on the iPhone and move around a lot! Don’t stand still and always have something in your hand as it makes it less awkward. I always have a coffee in my hand or a handbag in my hand and it just makes you feel a little less awkward and then I just move or walk around."

Quickfire round:

Show you’re currently binging? Well, this is actually the third time I’ve watched it, which is so sad, but Bridgerton!

Go-to cuppa? I always drink a vanilla cappuccino or a vanilla latte. Anything with sweet vanilla in it.

Go-to loungewear brand? Joah Brown, I literally just ordered some stuff from there.

Favourite face mask? it has to be the Skinceuticals Hydrating Masque.

Favourite candle? It has to be my Neom Sleeping Candle.
