Ah thick eyebrows, the thing we so crave that has eluded us for millennia.
To save you some trial and error at the expense of your immaculate brows we've compiled a list of tip and trips to actually achieve THICK brows (notice we capitalised 'THICK' and formatted it in bold just to emphasise how THICK they will in fact be). The list includes home remedies, cosmetic options, tips and tricks, and advice for shaping your brows with makeup.
Follow these tips and you'll be looking like Zendaya and Cara Delevingne in no time (or at least your eyebrows will...).
Home remedies to thicken your eyebrows:
Home remedies can be a great option to achieve thick eyebrows as they can be done with items you will have just lying around the house, saving you heaps of money. They also tend to be pretty easy on the skin so can be a welcome alternative to cosmetic treatments.
It is worth noting, however, that as these are home remedies they are not guaranteed to work and the effectiveness of each method is largely still up for debate, but equally they're so easy and inexpensive to do it is definitely worth a shot.
Vaseline
Now this may seem like an old wives' tale, but have you seen these old wives' brows? They were clearly on to something as vaseline may actually promote hair growth.
Basically for your natural brows to grow you need an environment that promotes hair growth a.k.a. well nourished skin around your brows - Vaseline can do the trick here.
Vaseline produces a sealing barrier and as it is an occlusive (provides a protective seal) so can also lock in moisture and support your skin’s natural recovery process.
While there isn't conclusive proof that Vaseline works, it's worth giving it a shot. Marilyn Monroe swore by Vaseline, incorporating it into her skincare routine and who are we (or you) to question the judgement of such an ICON?
Coconut oil
As with Vaseline coconut oil also forms a sealing barrier helping to promote hair growth. Coconut oil is also thought to increase circulation while also stimulating your cellular metabolism. This also promotes hair growth.
Other oils can also work such as olive oil, jojoba oil and castor oil. We recommend applying the oil before bed and letting it do its magic while you sleep.
Massaging your brows
Studies have found that massaging your scalp can stimulate hair growth increasing hair thickness, so why not give it a go on your brows? Even if it doesn't work it feels good so what have you got to lose?
We will say, however, its best not to do it too regularly as this could irritate your brows.
Thicken your eyebrows by not using tweezers
Yep you heard us right. While there's nothing wrong with making your eyebrows a bit neater, there's a difference between removing a stray hair and plucking their eyebrows to within an inch of their life.
Be conscious of the light you pluck your eyebrows in. Soft dull lighting is best when it comes to working on your brows as some hairs aren't as viable in natural light but too much light can encourage you to over-pluck (which definitely win't help you achieve the thick eyebrows you so crave).
You should also avoid pressing too hard into your eyebrows when going over them with brow pencils.
Use hair conditioner to thicken your eyebrows
The benefits that hair conditioner can have on the hair on your head can also apply to your eyebrows. Many conditioners contain oils and proteins which promote growth, and also hydrating your hair so it looks fuller and shinier.
When you’re conditioning your hair in the shower next time, why not massage some into your eyebrows? It couldn't hurt (unless you get it in your eyes that is...).
De-stress to thicken your eyebrows
While this is definitely easier said than done, stress can actually cause hair loss so it figures that attempting to alleviate stress in your life can actually help to increase the thickness of your eyebrows and hair in general.
As Healthline explains the stress hormone corticosterone can affect hair growth. They quote a 2021 study of mice to back this up.
The tendency to pull hair including when stressed, a.k.a. Trichotillomania, can also affect the thickness of your brows so trying to manage the stress in your life can help you on your journey to get thicker eyebrows.
We recommend meditation, but there are also many other ways to alleviate stress, such as going on a walk or having a relaxing bath.
Use eyebrow growth serum
Eyebrow growth serum can be another great option - it literally does what it says on the tin. You can apply the growth serum daily for the best results. These serums are made to stimulate growth of hair follicles above the eye. Some of the best serums contain peptides as ingredients that make hair grow quickly.

This is another great option. The serum contains Keratin and polypeptides that will support brow growth for more defined arches. Not to mention it's one of the cheaper options out there.
Eat more protein rich foods
Protein is, essentially what makes up our hair, so it makes sense that including more protein in your diet would stimulate hair growth. Protein rich foods include Chicken, Fish and shellfish, and if you’re vegetarian or vegan these can include include eggs, nuts and legumes.
Shape your eyebrows
There's only so much home remedies and lifestyle changes can do. Shaping your eyebrows can be a great way to achieve the thick eyebrows you desire. Here are some tips. A great way to do this is by filling in gaps in your eyebrows with makeup.
There are a variety of brow fillers, pencils, waxes, and putties you can use and this can be a good option to achieve fuller brows while you wait to see if the aforementioned treatments are effective and your eyebrows grow out.
