If you’re serious about getting fit this year, or even if you’re a seasoned fitness fanatic, chances are you’ve got, or are looking for, an effective way to track your progress with a fitness tracker.
Fitbit is possibly the best-known fitness tracker, second maybe to the Apple Watch, but who can afford one of those right now - right?
The latest and best Fitbits are far more advanced than they used to be, doing far more than just counting how many steps you take every day. They’re all-encompassing activity trackers that give Apple’s Watch a real run for its money, but at a fraction of the cost.

The best Fitbit to buy
Fitbit Charge 3
This simple Fitbit is bang up-to-date with a simple and unfussy design that looks sleek and sharp. This Fitbit proves you don't need to spend a huge amount of money – it packs a vast selection of features into its compact size. It can be worn in the shower and the pool, it knows when you're working out – and even what workout you're doing – and it constantly tracks your heart and sleep patterns. Teamed with the Fitbit app, it's a great companion to keep on top of your health and fitness goals.
Fitbit Versa 2
At the other end of the scale is Fitbit's latest smartwatch, the Versa 2. A dead ringer for the Apple Watch, the Versa 2 packs an awful lot of features in. Not only does it display real-time exercise statistics, but it also permanently shows the time on its screen – you don't have to tap or move it to light it up. On top of this, Amazon Alexa is built in for voice control and commands, and it'll let you know if you've got any notifications from your phone, be it phone calls, messages or more. Not only that, you can store music playlists on the watch to go with your workouts.
Fitbit Versa Lite
Like the sound of the Versa 2 but don't need the voice control and ability to store music? The Versa Lite might be for you. It looks very similar to the simple Versa 2, but still offers full fitness tracking, sleep monitoring and heart-rate monitoring, but at a lower price. As with any, the wristbands are interchangeable to make it personal as well.
Fitbit Inspire HR
The more advanced version of the Fitbit Inspire, the HR is a great fitness tracker for first-timers. It's simple to use with the usual features you'd expect and make use of in your fitness journey. It tracks what you're up to all day, knowing when you're exercising and when you're not, but also tracks how you sleep. It even gives you gentle reminders to move and get active, and offers heart monitoring that you won't get with the regular Inspire tracker.
Fitbit Ace 2
Fancy getting your kids involved and promoting a healthy lifestyle to them? The Fitbit Ace 2 is a brightly coloured tracker for your young ones, with fun fonts on the display with characters to appeal to their fun side. It lasts up to five days on a charge, is water resistant up to 50m and tracks that they're getting enough rest, as well enough moments of activity.
The best part is that there’s a vast range of models to choose from. Whether you want something simple to use to an all-singing, all-dancing fitness tracker, Fitbit has you covered. Of particular note is the latest Fitbit Charge 3 which lasts seven days on a charge, can go with you into the pool, and comes in a variety of colours. But there’s more than just that; you can interchange wristbands and straps, so you don’t have to settle for just one colour, and there’s even a set of Fitbit scales for a rounded approach to getting fit, tracking progress and staying fit.
