There’s one unspoken rule when you’re dating an all-singing, all-dancing global diva: give her exactly what she wants. But, sadly, it seems that Ben Affleck didn’t get that memo.
According to insiders, the actor had previously been promising Jennifer Lopez that babies were definitely on the cards for them in the near future. But now that Jen’s feeling especially broody, her potential baby daddy’s feet are feeling slightly chilly.
We’re told that Ben feels they already have their hands full tending to their blended family of five, and while Jen’s still considering using a surrogate and creating a mini Bennifer, he’s “digging in his heels” and saying he wants them to be sure and talk about it more.
“Jennifer really wants another baby,” says an insider close to the 52 year old, who’s already mum to 13-year-old twins Emme and Max, who she shares with her ex-husband Marc Anthony.
“It’s something she’s wanted for years, even before she got back together with Ben. When she was with Alex [Rodriguez, Jen’s former fiancé], she was pushing hard for it, too, but he’d always go hot and cold on the idea in the same way as Ben. When they first got back together last year, Ben would talk about wanting to have a baby with Jen all the time, so it’s been tough for her to accept that he’s not as into the idea these days.”

Jen and Ben, 49, announced they’d reunited last July, almost 20 years since they first got together. They’re both hands-on parents with their kids – Ben shares three children, Violet, 16, Seraphina, 13, and Samuel, nine, with ex-wife Jennifer Garner – and they’ve spent the past half-year in a loved-up bubble with their respective broods.
Jen herself recently commented on their second shot at love, saying in an interview that, “We’re older now, we’re smarter, we have more experience”, and, “We don’t take [our relationship] for granted”.
But according to our source, the issue of having a baby together is a sticky subject – and not one that’s going to disappear. “It’s been causing a lot of tension, because she won’t let it go,” we’re told.
