Katie Price began her third stint in rehab last week, after she crashed her car while driving under the influence of drink and drugs – an offence that could also see her spend Christmas in prison. The 43-year-old reality star pleaded guilty to drink-driving, driving without insurance and driving while disqualified, leading to her turning over her BMW in Sussex during the early hours of Tuesday 28 September.
After being confronted by police at the scene, she was heard saying, “I took drugs, I should not be driving, I admit it all.” Later, prosecutor Debbie Jones told Crawley Magistrates Court that a drugs test gave a positive reading for cocaine.
Joe Harrington, Katie’s defence solicitor, said, “As I understand it, she had been drinking, she was lonely, and she decided to go and see a friend who lived a relatively short distance away and that is when the incident happened. She has had a lot of personal problems recently. Currently, she is in the process of bankruptcy proceedings, so her house may be repossessed. So, quite a lot going on in this lady’s life, a really difficult period.”
Katie was given another ban and was told that her sentence would be deferred until 15 December on the condition that she have treatment at the Priory Centre, and not commit any further offences. Chair of the bench Julie Hutton warned, “We regularly send people to prison for driving while disqualified,” before wishing her luck at the Priory.
Her family released a statement on Katie’s Instagram page saying how worried they are about her “wellbeing and mental health” and were desperate for her to get help, while her fiancé Carl Woods has also publicly voiced his support for her.

Katie – who is mum to Harvey, 19, Junior, 16, Princess, 14, Jett, eight, and seven-year-old Bunny – was currently serving a driving ban from October 2019, when she failed to tell police who was behind the wheel when her car crashed. She had been expected to get her licence back in April, but was banned for a further six months, which she blamed on an admin error. She has now had six driving bans in ten years, as well as many other driving offences.
Just the day before the crash, Katie had appeared on Good Morning Britain with younger sister Sophie to promote their new baby range, and spoke about how hard it was to not drive because it meant she is unable to go and see eldest son Harvey, who is in residential care. “Harvey’s in Cheltenham now, he keeps ringing me, saying, ‘Mummy, I miss you, I need your kisses and cuddles,’ so it is quite hard,” she said. “Because obviously I don’t get my licence back until December, so I can’t just whizz in the car down there and it’s not close.”

Katie will now spend time in the Priory, where she has been twice before to get help for her drink and drug addictions. In January, she claimed she had beaten all of her demons, was sober and had written a “goodbye letter to cocaine”, in which she told the class-A drug, “You’ll never get the better of me again.”
She has apparently agreed to not have any contact with the outside world via her mobile phone for the next four weeks to get the treatment she needs, and must also engage with the probation service so a report can be prepared ahead of her sentencing.
