There were tears after Brooklyn’s big day – and they weren’t from him

Nearly 23 years after David and Victoria Beckham tied the knot in what was dubbed the “showbiz wedding of the decade”, it seems their eldest son Brooklyn may have eclipsed them last week when he married his fiancé Nicola Peltz.

Posh and Becks were every inch the proud parents as aspiring chef Brooklyn finally said “I do” to actress Nicola Peltz at a beautiful ceremony at Nicola’s £75million family home in Florida, followed by a glitzy star-studded reception.

Before the wedding, both Victoria and David took time out to relax in Miami with their three younger children – Romeo, 19, Cruz, 17, and ten-year-old Harper, as well as other family members – and were loving life in the sun, with trips on their yacht and fancy dinners.

Along with Nicola’s billionaire parents, they helped to host Brooklyn’s A-list bash, which was said to have cost in the region of £3m. And, as is often true after a lot of weddings, we’re told there was a bit of a comedown – but not from the bride and groom. Instead, it’s Posh who is struggling as she comes to terms with how much her life is going to change.

“Vic was in her element in Florida,” an insider tells heat. “It really was one of the greatest days of her life – and she and David are so proud of Brooklyn. They’re thrilled he’s settled down with someone like Nicola. The wedding was a real celebration – the first time a lot of them had been together after the last two years. But once it was over, Vic was feeling a bit down, as the realisation hit her that her first baby is now a married man. And with him and Nicola already thinking about babies, he could have a family of his own soon. Although she’s so happy for him, it’s really made her worry about the future and what will happen with her family.”

Victoria and Brooklyn have always been close, with him often stepping up to support his mum when David has been away for work. And, while we’re told she’s delighted he has found Nicola and that her family have welcomed him with open arms, she now feels she’s lost Brooklyn to his new wife and his life in America.

“There was talk of Brooklyn and Nicola being based in the UK, but they soon decided that wasn’t the best option for their careers,” our source says.

“They went to live in LA for a bit, but Nicola wants to be close to her parents, so they’ve decided to make Florida their base. It’s bittersweet for Vic – on the one hand, she’s relieved that Brooklyn has settled down, as there were times he seemed a bit lost and could’ve gone down a different path. But, on the other hand, it’s hard he has now officially flown the nest. It’s made her realise how quickly the children are all growing up and how their family dynamics have changed. There have been a few tears. David has been a great support and told her they’ve done an amazing job with Brooklyn, in that he’s found his way in life and has supportive in-laws.”

There’s no denying Posh is all about family. Her Mother’s Day post last month attested to her love for her kids, and the designer takes any opportunity to proclaim her love for David and her family. But with Brooklyn now married, we’re told Vic is feeling anxious about the Beckhams’ tight bond, as her other kids are starting to reach that age where they want to spread their wings. On top of that, we’re told, she’s also torn between a life in the UK and one in the US.

While David has been involved with his team Inter Miami for years, he officially took ownership of the club (alongside co-owners Jorge and Jose Mas) in 2021, having poured his heart, soul, and a ton of money into the team. And, after a less-than-promising start to his tenure last year, we’re told he is looking to spend a lot of time in Miami as the new season kicks off.

“David is fully committed to his Miami dream and Vic is worried that it’s essentially become this huge vanity project that’s burning a huge hole in his pocket and leaving him stressed and on edge – especially with the team under-performing and £40m of his own cash already invested,” our insider says. “He wants to spend more time there and Vic’s not totally opposed to that, but Miami’s not a place she wants to live full time.”

But while David and Victoria often end up spending time apart due to their careers, our insider says Vic is most worried about losing her kids to the US. Second-eldest Romeo already plays for Inter Miami’s reserve team, based in Fort Lauderdale, and spends a lot of his time training in Florida, with Brooklyn and Nicola also mostly based there.

“Vic doesn’t want the family to be split, as they’ve done that in the past and it hasn’t worked out well,” we’re told. “Harper is settled at school in England and Vic doesn’t want to uproot her. But she starts secondary school in September, so Vic knows she has to make a decision before then. It’s tough, because in one way, it would make sense for them all to be in Miami – especially when Brooklyn and Nicola start having children – but her business is in London and so is the family home.”

And with David trying to save the reputation of his passion project – the team ended the 2021 season 19th out of 26 clubs – Victoria is having to be the supportive wife, while worrying about her family drifting apart.

“She wants David to keep following his dreams and believes in his vision, but the stakes are terrifyingly high, especially as he’s about to throw a ton more money trying to tempt superstar players to the club. Victoria has been helping him where she can, as she proved by getting Kim Kardashian to one of the launch parties last year. When David’s in America for games, she plans to attend with him whenever she can, but all PR aside, there’s a ton at stake here and that’s caused a lot of worry and tension.”

And the insider adds, “The next few months are going to be nerve-wracking, to say the least. Vic may have accepted that David will have to spend more time away in Miami, but she’s torn over what is best for her family.”
