Year after year we get told by countless Love Island stars just how rank the Love Island villas are – mainly, the toilet facilities. We will never forget the picture winter Love Island winner Sanam Harrinanan painted for us when we caught up with her in 2023, but yeah, it's safe to say we skipped that lunch that day. If you can't face reading it in full, just know that the word 'skid marks' and 'sweaty bums'. No. But what about the Big Brother house? SURELY given that Big Brother is filmed at the start of winter means housemates are spending way more time indoors than your average Islanders? That place must be otherworldly compared to the Love Island villa.
While we know that cleaners have been going into the Big Brother 2024 house, as they do on Love Island (Marcello confirmed that in an episode aired this week), it appears that we are on to something – the Big Brother house is indeed, disgusting. At least according to recently-evicted housemates Lily Benson, Khaled Khaled and Rosie Williams (Baked Potato).
Although apparently in the Big Brother house, toilet etiquette is not the problem – bug infestations are the problem.
We honestly don't know what's worse.
When asked to name and shame the most disgusting thing about the Big Brother house, Lily screamed (because of course she did), 'It was infested with fruit flies when we were all on veg. There were fruit flies all around the house. Everyone was trying to grab them with their hands. Someone left an orange peel in a cup – and I swear it wasn't me, everyone thought it was me, it wasn't – in the bedroom and I grabbed it and a swarm of fruit flies came flying out of it. Like, the whole house. You would leave your glass of wine, two minutes later about five flies were on the rim of the glass. It was just infested. And I was messy.'
It's the 'and I was messy' addition for us. To be fair, several housemates made comments about how difficult it was to live with Lily and not just because of the persistent screaming; there's plenty of footage out there of Lily causing chaos in the bedroom and there's PLENTY of footage of her dirty socks, which we hope she's sending to a priest now she's been evicted because they cannot be saved by regular methods. Like the majority of her housemates, however, heatworld loves you anyway, Lily.
We also put the question to Rosie, her apologised to Lily before reminiscing over the 'disgusting' star-shaped stew that Lily concocted in the kitchen a few weeks back.
She said, 'Also, because it's such a small environment, one night Lily made the star-shaped stew, and I'm so sorry, it was bloody diabolical. The whole house stank.'
To which Khaled piped in, 'It smelled horrendous.'
Those poor, poor cleaners.
