They were the Love Island couple who seemed unbreakable, so the news that series five's Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury have called it quits after half a decade has sent shockwaves around the UK. As the news broke, with an “extremely upset” Molly-Mae sharing the announcement on Instagram, fans were left devastated. Rumours soon started flying online, and cheating reports swiftly began to circulate.
Now, sources say that the woman at the centre of the split is totally “shell-shocked”. We’re told Molly-Mae, 25, is “heartbroken”, but trying to hold herself together for the sake of their one- year-old daughter Bambi.
“Molly-Mae had long suspected Tommy wasn’t faithful,” an insider tells heat. “She had recently found something suspicious on his phone, but she’s not been very open to her friends about it. She’s terrified that a girl is going to come out of the woodwork with a story to tell about Tommy that will destroy her.
“Molly-Mae pulled the plug on it because she’s been living a lie for months now. She wanted it to work more than anything, but she’s told some pals that Tommy has let her down in an awful way – but is too sad to even speak about it.”
When Molly-Mae announced their split last week, the reality star did nothing to disguise her heartbreak.
“Never in a million years did I think I’d ever have to write this,” she said on Instagram Stories. “After five years of being together, I never imagined our story would end, especially not this way.” Less than an hour later, boxer Tommy, 25, shared his own statement, saying, “I am heartbroken to share that Molly and I have decided to end our relationship,” before thanking Molly-Mae for “making me a dad”.
The shock announcement immediately sparked speculation by fans online. One report claimed that Molly-Mae believed Tommy had cheated on her multiple times, including with a Danish woman he met on holiday in Macedonia. This was denied by a spokesperson for Tommy, who told heat, “Tommy is horrified by the false allegations of cheating being circulated by the media and he’s consulting his lawyers.”
Tommy is said to have moved out of their Cheshire mansion – with Land Registry documents showing the £3.8m house was purchased in Molly-Mae’s name only in 2022. On her YouTube channel, where the influencer boasts 1.86m followers, she had documented the process of renovating it.
The couple hit it off the moment they met in the Hideaway hot tub on Love Island in 2019, eventually becoming runners-up on the show. After returning to the UK, Molly Mae and Tommy moved in together into a flat in Manchester within weeks. In March 2022, the pair then relocated to their dream Cheshire mansion. Throughout their relationship, she has documented and shared with fans its highs – like the birth of Bambi and their engagement in 2023 – but she’s also been honest about its lows. Since giving birth, Molly-Mae has struggled with her body image and told fans she didn’t have the confidence to wear a bikini any more. In January, the social media star even admitted that she and Tommy hadn’t had sex in the 11 months since Bambi had been born.
As Tommy’s boxing career has taken him across the world, Molly-Mae has also admitted to struggling with loneliness and spending long periods of time without her man. In her most recent vlog before the split, she claimed she was “solo-parenting” while her fiancé had been working. But with Tommy spotted partying with women during work trips abroad and holidays without Molly-Mae, she was pictured a number of times not wearing her engagement ring – notably after Tommy was pictured partying with rapper Chris Brown in Dubai, surrounded by a group of girls.
The insider adds, “For years, Molly’s been worried that Tommy would find someone else or stray because there are so many glamorous women out there, it’s hard to stay committed. Whether he did cheat on her or not, Molly had told friends that she didn’t feel very secure in the relationship for quite some time. She hated being suspicious or sounding like a ‘nag’, but she never felt safe.”
