The Married At First Sight experts don’t always get it right when it comes to pairing up the couple’s and that was pretty evident early on in Ben Walters’ relationship with his ‘bride’ Ellie Dix.
The pair had a number of disagreements during their time in the MAFS Australia experiment and things came to a head when he disappeared for 24 hours and then returned with a list of things he didn’t like about her. This led to both Ben and Ellie voting to leave at the next commitment ceremony.
Although viewers got to see plenty of the ups and downs in their relationship, Ben has now sensationally claimed that a major storyline was left on the cutting room floor.
According to Ben, Ellie had a boyfriend before taking part in the experiment and only broke up with him so that she appear on the show.
“They left out scenes where I discovered she broke up with her boyfriend to be on MAFS, even though Jack copped it for the same thing all season,” he told Yahoo Lifestyle.
Of course, Ben is referring to the explosive scenes that revealed Jack Dunkley had split from his ex-girlfriend Courtney Jade just weeks before his wedding to Tori Adams.
Ben added, “The editing made her seem like a hero throughout, then shifted to a cold-hearted woman when it mattered the most.”
He said, “If they showed everything, viewers would have seen Ellie's faults from the start alongside mine.”
In a final burn to Ellie, Ben addressed her rumoured relationship with fellow groom Jono McCullough when he jibed, “In the end, negativity attracts negativity making Ellie and Jono a match made in clout-chasing heaven.”
Ouch. He definitely didn’t mince his words.
Ben has already moved on from Ellie with his new girlfriend Aileen and he opened up about meeting her just “three to four weeks” after filming.
“I was not looking for a relationship,” he said. “I thought, I need to pick up the pieces. Can I even give myself? Am I even ready for this?
“I was f**king broken off the show, and I was trying to absorb all the lessons - I'm still doing that now. So I warned her like, ‘Hey, this is fantastic chemistry, we’re clicking, we have similar values and things like that but I just need a moment’, and she's been super caring and responsive. She has my back.”
