Cheryl tipped to appear on Strictly – but not as a dancer

Wait, what?

Cheryl

Cheryl could be set to make a huge TV comeback as it’s been reported she’s lined up to appear on the next series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Ahead of Strictly’s launch later this year, the rumour mill is in overdrive as fans speculate which famous faces could be competing for the iconic Glitterball trophy.

The likes of Maya Jama and Made in Chelsea’s Jamie Laing – who was forced to pull out of last year’s line-up with an injury – are just some of the names rumoured for the show so far and now Cheryl’s name has been added to the list.

As much as we’d love the former Girls Aloud star to take to the dance floor, she’s actually been tipped to replace judge Bruno Tonioli as his role on the show is up in the air.

Bruno usually jets between the UK and USA while Strictly is on as he also judges US version Dancing with the Stars but, with travel restrictions in place due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, he may have to choose between the two.

Cheryl is the bookies’ favourite to take Bruno’s place if he chooses to stay in America, with her odds being slashed after her show The Greatest Dancer was axed.

A spokesperson for Coral said, “With doubts over Bruno Tonioli's availability this year, we have slashed the odds on Cheryl being a judge on Strictly in 2020.

“Cheryl has been linked with being a contestant on Strictly for a while and they may just get their target this year, but in the judges' chair, rather than the dance floor."

This all comes after reports claimed Love Island’s Iain Stirling is ‘in talks’ to become a contestant on this year’s Strictly.

Iain would become the first ever Love Island star to take part in the show, although his rumoured fiancée Laura Whitmore competed in the 2018 series before she presented the ITV2 dating show.

“Iain’s had a few talks with the show and the ball is in his court,” a TV insider told The Sun.

"It's early days but bosses are really keen to get him on the dancefloor - he's a great name who would be popular with the audience. There was some talk about whether he had a golden handcuffs deal with ITV which could scupper things but if not, he'd be a real catch for the show.”
