As the TV offers roll in for this year’s Love Island stars it looks as though there’s already some competition between a few of its biggest exports.
Despite winner Amber Gill seemingly ‘confirmed’ for Dancing On Ice last month, telly sources now claim that she’s been dumped in favour of fellow Islander Maura Higgins.
The move from island to ice rink is a natural progression for former Love Islanders after Kem Cetinay and Wes Nelson competed in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
But ITV, which produces both shows, was apparently keen to sign a woman this time and Amber had initially been their top choice. But following great feedback from fans over Maura’s quirky personality during her new agony aunt segment on This Morning – another ITV program – bosses have made a U-turn.
“Dancing On Ice producers were always going to sign a Love Island star for next year’s series and they wanted a girl this time after having two guys in the past,” a source told The Sun.
“It was looking hopeful for Amber but Maura pipped her to the post with her sense of humour and personality.”
Maura has made no secret about her dreams of joining ballroom dancing beau, Curtis Pritchard, on the dance floor, even telling Closer online that she’d love to win Strictly with Curtis, whose brother AJ currently stars on the show, as her professional partner.
The source added, “Maura is hoping Curtis can now teach her more moves, even though she will be on the ice."
heatworld has reached out to Amber's representatives for a comment.
