Things were a little different at this year's MTV VMA Awards. No live performances, masks as part of everyone's red carpet look and Ariana Grande's distinct lack of ponytail.
The night, usually a raucous affair of airing celebrity feuds and internet-breaking performances, consisted of pre-recorded performances and fake audience sounds. Weird.
Perhaps the oddest moment of the night was the lack of Ariana's iconic pony hairstyle, which was this year replaced by cute pigtails.
