If there’s a gal we swoon over on the reg, it’s got to be Gemma Chan.

Not only does she boast some seriously badass acting credentials (Oh hey Crazy Rich Asians and Mary Queen of Scots) but her approach to beauty as a form of female empowerment is a force to be reckoned with.

Naturally, when we heard she was the new Global Spokesperson for L’Oréal Paris, we couldn’t wait to find out a little more about her favourite products, alongside any beauty tips and tricks she might have. And it turns out she’s got plenty of words of wisdom when it comes to us looking and feeling our best.

Not just a pretty face, Gemma is hot on female empowerment. “My first inspirations were my grandmothers and my mother – all strong, courageous women. Within the L’Oréal Paris family I have such admiration for Jane Fonda for her tireless activism, and also Viola Davis and Eva Longoria. And Céline Dion is a legend.” And in order to boost her own self confidence? “I try to make time for myself and to spend time with people that I value and who value me. I feel most empowered when lifting others and empowering them.”

As far as beauty rules go, Gemma has more than just a few. “My mum told me to never go to bed with my makeup on, so I always cleanse, tone and moisturise. She also said not to over pluck my eyebrows. But the one non-negotiable part of my routine is a moisturiser with a good SPF.”

All about the importance of self-care,Gemma continues, “For me, my beauty routine is time for myself. It should be a part of the day you can look forward to, that leaves you feeling good and ready for whatever comes next. It is also a chance to get creative - beauty products and makeup can be powerful tools of self-expression!”

We’re all about championing beauty that makes us feel inspired, so get in on the act and shop Gemma’s go-to prods in the gallery below. From hair, to skincare, to make-up there’s a little something for everyone.
