We're impatient folk here at heatworld. As much as we're wetting ourselves over the thought of Love Island FINALLY returning to our screens, if we could, we'd skip right to the drama – you know, the fire pit moments, the Hideaway scenes, the rogue terrace crawls, Casa Amor, Movie Night etc. We're chaotic that way.
To be honest, we feel this way about most reality shows and we certainly feel this way about most opening episodes. An hour of interviews and slow-mo strolling? No, bb. We really are an impatient generation, aren't we? Once upon a time you had to wait for your 'rents to finish on the phone before you could hop on the internet.
BUT, according to show creator, Mike Spencer, Love Island 2024 producers are one step ahead of us and our dismally poor attention spans – at least when it comes to the first episode format.
While heat was nosing around the brand-new Love Island villa in Majorca ('cause work), we managed to catch up with the show's creator who announced that the first day format is set to dramatically change this year, revealing that this year's OGs will not be coupled up by the public from the offset (thank goodness, because even putting Liberty Poole and Jake Cornish together was somehow boring at the start of All Stars).
Although Mike didn't reveal any specifics, he did say that "there will be an element of new game play" in a bid to keep the show" fresh."
Cue us cancelling plans on Monday night then...
Mike told press and influencers visiting the villa, “There is a new day one format as well. It’s not a public vote, but there’ll be a new way to couple up our Islanders.
"I think it will shock the Islanders because there will be an element of a new game play that will lead to their couples without them knowing it.”
Game play? Here for it.
He added, “It’s good to keep things fresh, keep everyone on their toes and remind them that they’re here to find love.”
During our chat with Mike, the creator also announced another major change to the series. He revealed that the famous Hideaway has not only had a seriously sexy glow-up, but its rule book is officially out of the window this year, and tbh, GOOD, because that rule book was getting dusty.
Love Island returns to our screens for series 11 on Monday 3 June and we will now definitely be watching, FYI.
