While many on Love Island do find love (or like, let’s say), many others enter into some public feuds rather than relationships. You’re bound to make enemies and frenemies when you’re living with each other in a villa for two months straight, so it’s understandable that many Islanders are no longer close with contestants from their series.
Sometimes, there are even some inter-series feuds, and Love Island 2019 turned All Stars contestant Chris Taylor found himself embroiled in one this year.
Although he was chatting to heat to promote his upcoming appearance on Celebs Go Dating, we obviously had to ask some Love Island questions - including that Samantha Kenny feud.
While presenting Aftersun, Chris made a joke that Samantha’s legs must be exhausted from chasing after Joey Essex on Love Island 2024, and Samantha naturally didn’t take too kindly to the jab. Not one to shy away from speaking her mind, she called out Chris on Aftersun, assuring him, “No one was chasing Joey Essex, I did not choose Joey Essex, he chose me.”
She finished her rebuttal off strong, saying, “Chris, if you’re watching, you should know better. You’ve done the show twice, not once. You see 45 minutes.”
So, when we sat down with Chris last week, naturally we wanted to know if he had squashed this beef.
He told us, “It was unfortunate for me that I wasn’t there because we could have ironed it out a lot quicker. The thing is I’m there to do jokes, and the people that I make jokes about are on the show, so it’s kind of what I get paid to do.
“Me and Samantha are actually very friendly now because actually she was a little bit serious, but she was joking - like 97% joking - when she said that. And then we met afterwards and were like, ‘Oh you and your live TV calling out.’ But yeah, we’re pally and that now, she’s lovely. Really good mates.”
Samantha also revealed last month to Closer that Chris slid into her DMs to apologise after the incident, so we’re inclined to believe that it really is all peachy between the two now.
To be fair, what Love Islander hasn’t called out a fellow contestant in the past? It’s basically a rite of passage.
Celebs Go Dating launches on Monday 19 August at 9pm on E4.
