Kim Kardashian has been trying to make it as a serious actress for a while now. And, after a stream of awkward cameos in shows like 90210 and 30 Rock, she seems to have finally done it.
But her new career could cost the Kardashian family the very thing that made them household names in the first place.
Following her successful stint in American Horror Story earlier this year, Kim, 43, is set to star in Hollywood drama All’s Fair, alongside acting legends Halle Berry and Glenn Close. While not much is known about the upcoming Hulu series, it’s been reported that the SKIMS creator will play a divorce lawyer at the helm of a high-powered, all-female firm.
However, instead of being happy for her daughter, insiders say momager Kris Jenner, 68, is worried Kim – who’s mum to North, 11, Saint, eight, Chicago, six, and Psalm, five, with her ex Kanye West – won’t be able to fully commit to The Kardashians, and that could signal the end for the family’s hit reality show.
We’re told, "Kim is broadening her horizons, and banking on her fruitful relationship with producer Ryan Murphy to become a full-blown actress. But Kris has said for years that she wants her The Kardashians franchise to go on forever.
"Kris put so much work into moving the whole thing over to Hulu, and updating it for the streaming era, and she feels that it would be a real shame if it ended after a short run. But that doesn’t change the fact that Kim has this passion for acting, and that means a lot of 18- hour shooting days where the reality TV camera can’t follow her around."
The insider adds, "Kris would rather make fewer episodes a year, but have full access to Kim, than have to make a bunch of episodes that barely feature her. For now, Hulu is going along with that plan, but for Kim, there’s only so many hours in the day and she also has to be a mum and run her brands, as well. She’s always stretched thin – that’s nothing new – but this is the first time in her life that making the reality show isn’t her number one professional priority. That in itself is totally uncharted territory for Kris."
The family became stars with Keeping Up With The Kardashians back in 2007. Cameras followed them around for 14 years and 20 seasons until 2021, when they decided to take a break. That break only lasted a year, however, and they were soon back on our screens with updated version The Kardashians, starring matriarch Kris, plus Kim, Kourtney, 45, Khloé, 40, Kendall, 28, and Kylie, 27.
Now, Kris is worried that Kim’s bored of the series – and her lack of enthusiasm could rub off on her sisters.
In 2019, Kourtney, who welcomed her fourth child Rocky with husband Travis Barker last November, took a step back in order to focus on her children. Meanwhile, Kendall is busy being a supermodel, and Kylie said in an interview earlier this month, "Privacy is so important to me in life… I don’t know who I would have been without all these eyes on me. I probably would’ve been a different person. I do think that I’m misunderstood."
But businesswoman Kris knows how important having the reality show is to keeping the family relevant and in the spotlight.
We’re told, "The show is her baby and will always come first. These are tough times in TV land and she’d be a fool to assume they’re not at risk of getting cancelled. She relies heavily on Kim to bring in the viewers, so she can’t help but worry that having her less involved will cost them all in the end."
