We're kind of obsessed with Caroline Hirons. No word of a lie, we once waited online for three hours to try and get our hands on one of her skincare kits (and we didn't even get one 😭).

For those not in the know, Caroline Hirons is a skincare blogger come YouTuber and she's one of the leading authorities in the industry. She's frequently appearing on This Morning, letting good 'ole Holly and Phil know what's up (throw away those face wipes and use a flannel, that's what) and, last year, she even released a best-selling book on the matter, aptly titled, Skincare.

Now, when our skin is possibly at it's worst because, well, maskne, Caroline has stepped in to save the day and, thankfully, it's with a high-street brand.

Yep, you can get your hands on this bad boy at Boots for less than a tenner and, in all honesty, our bank accounts just breathed a sigh of relief. They're still recovering from our last Drunk Elephant splurge at the hands of Caroline's recommendations...

So, what's the magic product? Well, reader, it's French pharmaceutical brand Avène's Cicalfate+ Restorative Protective Cream and it's currently on sale for a mere £6.

Shouting out about the bargain face cream on her Instagram earlier this week, Caroline did a run down of some of her favourite French skincare and, she said, "Cicalfate has been especially useful since Covid-mask-wearing zits and irritation have become a real thing for all of us.

"Zinc and copper make it almost like a nappy cream for the face."

God knows, we need that.

If you're in need of a quick soothing fix after almost a year of mask wearing, check out the Avéne cream now. After all, it is on offer.

We were fully prepared to pay £40+ for a maskne saviour, so this is an absolute weight off our shoulders. Thank you, Caroline.

Some tips from the heat team for a more bearable lockdown....

1. Make your inside space as calming as possible

Treat yourself to some homeware bits to make the most of the rooms you'll be seeing a lot of over the next month. Why not start with some greenery to bring in oxygen or maybe a salt lamp to purify the air around you. According to Women's Health mag, salt lamps "release negative ions into the air as [they] warm – making you feel better, naturally."

2. Invest in some 'active' skincare

Mask wearing can seriously take its toll on your skin. Now that you've got a bit more time before and after work (if you're WFH, that is), try and figure out what it is your skin really needs. Hyaluronic acid can help with dryness, and niacinamide can aid excess oil production. Plus, these days you can get all these fancy sounding actives for less than a tenner. The Ordinary and The Inkey List are great places to start.

3. Take some much needed time away from your devices

When the only way you can interact with your friends and family is online, it can get a bit exhausting being constantly present in the virtual world. Try setting aside an hour or two every couple days to take some screen-free time. You could read a book or try some meditation - the Calm app is great for beginners.
