Why isn’t Celebrity Big Brother on TV on a Saturday?

Why must we suffer from FOMO every Saturday night?

If you’re one of the very few who aren't watching Celebrity Big Brother, first of all, what are you doing every evening? What in the world could be better than seeing your favourite (or at least, formerly well-liked) celebs slag each other off and compete in ridiculous challenges?

When Big Brother was revived back in 2023, we had high hopes, but it’s safe to say that ITV more than delivered when they gave us housemates like angelic Yinrun Huang and winner Jordan Sangha. Then, when ITV once again answered our prayers and announced that they were bringing back the iconic celebrity edition of the reality show, our expectations were sky high.

If we had any complaints about the show, and trust us we’d have very few, it’s that we don’t get the original 24/7 format. Remember when we could tune in to see housemates sleeping? What a time to be alive.

Now, the housemates even seem to get a day off, as there’s no Saturday episode of the beloved show. So, why not? And what are the housemates up to on their day off? These are all burning questions we’re dying to know the answer to.

While the Big Brother weekends are a bit of a mystery, there has been much speculation online as to what they get up to. Many viewers guess that it’s simply a chance to give the presenters a break, AJ Odudu and Will Best have lives, you know.

One viewer came up with the theory that similar to Love Island, the cast need “down days” where they can unwind. This would also give the crew the opportunity to get cleaners in the tackle the house- specifically the kitchen.

Although we don’t necessarily need to see someone scrubbing the kitchen floor, it doesn’t help our intense FOMO. We could be missing some serious celebrity goss - although now that Sharon Osbourne has been booted, it’s likely the celeb bashing may have dried up a bit.

Others have guessed that the break is to make room for other ITV shows to air in the coveted 9pm slot. As much as we love CBB we can’t help but feel sorry for the many otherwise popular shows who barely get a look in.
