Since wrapping Love Island 2024, this summer's Islanders have been doing the press rounds, popping up on TikToks and getting free drinks and swag bags at every event going – it's giving Brat summer. Well, we think it is – we're still getting our head round that one. Anyone else think everyone was talking the Bratz dolls for weeks?
But in case you were wondering what Love Island 2024 host Maya Jama is doing with her newfound free time post Love Island – aside from having the classiest and boujiest Brat summer going with that fab LI wardrobe – wonder no more.
Of course, the media queen is working on something new and exciting and, we have to say, she's somehow levelled up yet again. We're talking Hollywood A-listers. We're talking West End. We're talking producer credits.
Earlier today, Maya was officially announced as a producer for the West End transfer of new romance play, Shifters, alongside award-winning actor Idris Elba and rapper Little Simz. Can we just for a minute? The play will run for a nine-week season at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London's West End with previews from 12 August 2024.
Shifters is a sizzling romantic stage play starring Heather Agyepong and Tosin Cole, star of Netflix’s hit new release Supacell and Doctor Who. And yes, you read that right, Love Island queen Maya is helping to produce it. Seriously, is there anything this icon can't do?
Speaking of her new venture, Maya said, "I’m so excited to be a part of bringing Benedict Lombe’s beautiful play, SHIFTERS, to the West End. I fell in love with the play the moment I read it – I feel like I know these characters, I know their story, and it’s also really wonderful to be able to see yourself represented in art, that’s the most important part of it. I really hope you fall in love with these characters and their journey as much as I have."
The play tells the love story of Dre and Des, who are "are young, gifted, Black." Years after first meeting, they come crashing back into each other’s lives "carrying new secrets and old scars."
Maya once again sizzled as the host of Love Island this summer.
After Laura Whitmore stepped down from hosting Love Island in 2022, Maya was announced as the new host and has presented winter Love Island 2023, Love Island 2023, Love Island: All Stars, the latest series, and the spin-off show Love Island Games.
Several weeks into filming, she and her ex Stormzy made an official announcement that they had split once again.
The pair stressed they will always be friends, writing, "We still think the absolute world of each other, we still care and respect each other, we are still grateful for the time we've had together, and we are still friends and will always be friends (so if you see us having a lil catch-up at The BRITs or something, don't cause a fuss, we are dawgs!)."
