From Movie Night to Snog, Marry, Pie, there are a number of Love Island moments that a series of the the ITV2 dating show would feel incomplete without.
One of our faves is meet the parents, which usually happens towards the end of the show, as the contestants’ nearest and dearest enter the villa to reunite with their loved ones and give their verdict on the person they’ve chosen to couple up with.
While it always offers up some heart-warming (and often tear-jerking) scenes, there have also been plenty of awkward af moments over the years. Following winter Love Island 2023’s meet the parents, here are some of the most cringeworthy moments we’ve had…
Paige Thorne’s mum BURNS Adam Collard
No, we don’t mean literally, but Paige Thorne’s mum was pretty savage about Adam Collard when she and Paige’s dad entered the villa last summer. Adam developed quite the reputation as a player when he first appeared on the show back in 2018 and Mama Thorne admitted she “wasn’t buying” his reformed act. Her intuition proved to be right too as Paige and Adam split just a few months after leaving the show amid rumours he’d cheated on her.
Curtis Pritchard’s mum can’t pronounce Maura Higgins’ name
Maura Higgins was the name of everyone’s lips during Love Island 2019. Everyone except Curtis Pritchard’s mum that is and she rather awkwardly found it impossible to pronounce her son’s partner’s name correctly. Instead, she repeatedly referred to her as ‘Moira’ – even after being corrected by Curtis.
Indiyah Polack’s mum calls Dami Hope the wrong name
Speaking of calling someone by the wrong name, Indiyah Polack’s mum was left red-faced last summer when she accidentally called Dami Hope ‘Deji’. You know, as in Deji Adeniyi, the bombshell that Indiyah coupled up with in Casa Amor? It was super awks and only added insult to injury after Indiyah had made the same mistake just days before.
Anton Danyluk’s mum giving Belle Hassan a razor to shave his bum
Remember when 2019 Islander Anton Danyluk confessed that he got his mum to shave his bum for him? Well, when Sherie-Ann visited her son in the villa, she passed on the torch (and by torch, we mean razor) to Belle Hassan, even though she’d previously admitted she wasn’t a massive fan of Anton’s girlfriend.

We all know Danny Dyer’s not a man who minces his words so fans were eager to see him touch down in the villa for his first meeting with daughter Dani Dyer’s boyfriend Jack Fincham. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen but Danny and his wife Jo did have a video call with their daughter and her man. Danny gave Jack his seal of approval but didn’t let him get away without a bit of a ribbing as he joked about Jack parading his belly in a villa full of “abbed up” Islanders.
